If Broberg played the right side i could see the logic. We just dont have the room for another mid-level LD. If we want another, they'll probably take one in the draft because there are quite a few good LD's on the docket this year (Dickinson, Kiviharju, etc). But i would imagine the right side is more of a goal at the moment

Broberg, can play the right side! He's comfortable on either side

Hmmmm, I would've thought Chicago fans would want Alex Vlassic to get more time in the AHL this season instead of being thrown to the wolves like he has been. Don't you think Broberg could take his spot so Vlassic can get top line minutes in the AHL?

Vlasic has actually played better than expected this year. But either way, the point is that I wouldnt target some just for the sake of eating minutes this season. We have guys that can already do that or we can pluck someone off waivers. A 2nd is nice for Dickinson retained if we decide we don't want to keep him. And Broberg might be a similar return of what we might expect for Raddysh, but i dont think the positional fit is there to justify this specific trade

Honestly, there aren't any lofty expectations, it's more of a challenge for him, so playing in the NHL is hardly throwing him to the wolves in this case. He'll probably develop better and have more time to get accustomed to the team's systems and bond with other members of their young core. He's probably happy with the better pay as well. The team will also get the opportunity to sign him to a pretty cheap bridge/long-term deal as well, the more the play him, it gives them a better sample on what to expect out of him so that they don't end up overpaying for him.

Fair enough! Maybe Chicago isn't the right place for Broberg. I just want him to go somewhere he can get some minutes, he's got so many of the raw tools to be a good defender

Chicago could be the right place for Broberg but I'm just saying that they probably don't bring him in at the expense of Vlasic. He could maybe be put on the right side as you suggested. While the draft does have a ton of good defensive prospects and CHI might be looking to add some RHD or just good defensive prospects in general as @SlickWilly said, I imagine CHI is going to have a top 3 pick, and they will likely select a forward unless they maybe fall to #3, so I don't think they will be selecting any of the top 10 defenders. Whoever they pick with their TB pick might not be expected to be as good as Broberg was/is expected to be (although he hasn't shown anything yet).

Hawks decline. Broberg isn't a fit in Chicago. They've got Vlasic and Korchinski on the left side, plus Kaiser, Phillips and DelMastro as additional LD options. Swap Broberg for Akey and the Hawks probably consider it.

Vlassic is getting top line minutes in the NHL. Why send him to Rockford? He has 2nd most TOI/g for Hawks D.

If the return for Raddysh is only Broberg, then the answer is no. Why add more players to a position of strength? This deal just doesn't make sense for Hawks.
