1 Deadline Move

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2023
Published: Dec. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jenner for 3 years at half cap hit would be a huge score for a competitor.

The assets would be huge for Columbus as well. It would be hard for them trading their captain though.

Thoughts?

Avs decline. Boone means to much to CBJ for it ever to make sense value wise.

Take Ritchie out and kill the retention. Colton is the 3C, him and Wood are the only consistent reliable combos in the forward core beyond the top line, and Drouin has found a little something to work with those guys to because he is most definitely not a center.

That gets CBJ's consideration, but I don't know if it's quite enough. It's basically a couple of late 1st-round picks and mid-round picks for arguably the most important player in franchise history, who still has term on a great deal and wants to be in Columbus.

Cal Ritche would definitely be on the prospect target list for a Jenner trade. Value isn't bad but it's hard to gauge at the moment. We really have no idea how much the FO is valuing Jenner who may be one of the only assets that could return significant value.

I'd also be interested in getting Girard and we have a similar type defenseman who could use a better system in Jake Bean. Could be a worthwhile bet for Colorado and give them capspace to go elsewhere.

Basically Jenner's internal value to the Jackets is more than any sane GM should be willing to pay.

Would you make this offer from the Colorado side of things?

This package is a bit nutty already.

No, not at all, that's my point. I rate Jenner as a middle 6 winger/3C (funnily enough I was reading an article on him with Jackets fans commenting on it and the vast majority were of the same opinion....guess they don't get on here much!) and as that he doesn't have anywhere near that kind of value. To the Jackets internally however he has significant value. So it's really his internal value to the Jackets vs his market value imo. I'd argue a similar player would be Sissons (and again his internal value to the Preds would be higher than his strict trade value) and Sissons would probably come a lot cheaper. Give Sissons similar ice time and line mates to Jenner and I'm pretty sure you'd see comparable stats. Do I like both players? Absolutely. Would I like them on the Avs? Absolutely. Would I pay the likely asking price in GMCM's shoes? Probably not.

You're basically spot-on. He's a stellar 3C, decent 2C, and his lack of speed makes him better suited for the wing (although he's great on the dot). He's the all-time franchise GP leader, 3rd in goals/points, the captain, and one of the few veteran leaders. He's literally our Crosby, although not the same caliber player obviously. That and his shockingly good contract make him both extremely valuable externally to any contender (which bumps the market), and even more valuable internally.

Yep, I did look at it after and think I should have probably said more of tweener 2-3C (but that somehow almost seems derogatory compared to saying a solid middle 6 wing or solid 3C) and having a wing who can step in if a C gets tossed makes him ideal in that role with his FO abilities (similar to when Sissons is on the wing in Nashville). That lack of speed also makes him arguably a bad fit with how the Avs play (though I don't think it's that bad from when I've watched Jenner).

Drouin has 15 points in his last 23 games. He isn't going to be a 4C
