If Nylander takes a discount (i.e. reasonable but still high AAV) the Leafs don't trade him.

Even if, for some reason, Nylander is willing to take 9.5x8, he doesn't bring back a young star player on a more budget friendly contract.

Look at the Dubious and Tkachuk trades if he's willing to take 9.5x8

He is going to the UFA market. He hasn't re-signed by now because he is going for every penny he can get. He sat out last contract and came close to missing the full season. The leafs will probably trade his rights in the off-season, value wise Idk.

I dont need to compare Nylander to Thompson production, to say that Thompson for 7mil AAV is more valueable than Nylander at 10+ mil aav.
