Detroit isn't trading their unicorn for a middle of the road RHD prospect.

Leafs pass on Kerfoot 2.0 and a boat anchor defender

I dont think PHI does either of those first 2 deals. I think you overestimate liljegren and aho (and helge), and underestimate emil andrae, the return for a 50% 40+ pt in atkinson, laughton/risto with retention, and why would PHI sit on 12 mil in cap space with that mediocre/unknown 2nd pairing and all 3 of their retention spots gone for the next 2 years.

and this is presumably with nothing from 23-24 TDL (keeping walker, staal, seeler) ?

I don't imagine EDM would trade a 2nd for a 35-year old RW currently trending down towards a 40-pt season. In fact, I don't think that's the kind of move any team really makes.

Ristolainen has had one season in past 6-8 where he wasn’t absolutely awful and Laughton is perpetually one of the most overrated players on this site. I’m in favour of Leafs moving their 1st (not Lili btw) but only if they land a difference maker and this ain’t that

Has Soderblom really proven that much in Detroit?

He’s about to be 23 and hasn’t really broken out in the AHL, Attard I think has been far more effective offensively in the same league

If Soderblom is unproven and is a worse asset, why would Philly trade for him?

Soderblom is house money. A late round pick that could not develop or could be a gem. His upside would mean more to the Wings than Attard, who has a higher floor and lower ceiling. Detroit also has more defensive prospects than forwards, so Attard adds to excess at 24 years old.

For Soderblom style of play to be effective he has to be stronger and that takes time to do it correctly. Just look at Tage Thompson. There are plenty of players that were mediocre in the AHL and better in the NHL.

If you think Attard has been far more effective offensively in the AHL than Soderblom why make this trade?
