Do you think upgrading players comes for free?

A 6D, a 3C and a backup don't get you prime assets. Neither Savard or Monahan are significant enough for us to move Niemela or Cowen lmao

Savard would be in your top 4 tomorrow, Monahan is an upgrade on Domi and Allen would be the Leafs starter. All while taking back the cap dump of Samsonov.

Also, Niemela is a nothing prospect, wouldnt even be in the top 10 prospects for the Habs

If the Leafs did this trade, I would change from a Leafs Fan to a Habs fan. As the title says fleecing the Leafs and wholeheartedly agree that this would fleece them. Under some previous management's, I would agree it is entirely possible. Under Treliving, history shows him harder on trades and a deal like this probably won't happen. ( That said, treliving has a bad habit with oversigning players cough klingberg, cough Reaves, cough Huberdeau, cough shall I keep going lol)

Allen would not be a starter over woll. Niemella is more than a nothing prospect as some still project him as an NHL dman potential top 4 most likely top 6. But yes Monahan is an upgrade Domi. I would trust Domi a little more offensively, but the 3rd line also sees a lot of defensive assignments and Monahan greatly outperforms Domi defensively. Savard would not help as McCabe is getting better. Liljegren is better, Reilly is better. Also Giordano, Benoit, lagesson and Timmins gives us 4 dman more than capable of patrolling the 4 to 8 d man range for minutes. ( Yes I would prefer a better top 4 among them but Savard for his salary and expectations would not improve the Leafs.

Savard isn't even a top 4 on the Habs. His analytics have been garbage for YEARS when he faces top competition. He sucks.

For what it's worth, Domi > Monahan.

Allen is an overpaid backup. Keep him.

Savard is playing with Matheson on the top pair (he was injured at the start of the year).

He plays long minutes and blocks a lot of shots. But he will usually get caved in when he has to play 25+min. He can fit nicely on the top4... but he has no business being your top defender.

Pairs well with a PMD.

Anyway, I'm not defending this trade, only the player.

Savard logs around 19-21 minutes a night. Ever since going to montreal and playing in a top 4 role, his metrics have been garbage. Age has very clearly caught up to him and he's a replacement level player that can't skate anymore.

The Montreal fans somehow convincing themselves they'll get a 2nd+ for him need to give their eyes a scrub

I guess when you miss the playoffs year after year, fleecing the leafs on a fantasy site is kind of like your playoffs 👏

Remember the leafs only playoff round played from 2006 to 2016 ?

Yes, painful. Can’t know for sure - I wasn’t in cap friendly, if it even existed then - but I wouldn’t be taking shots at much better teams. There is time to 🤐 and suffer in silence
