I'm an outsider, but you'd have to add at least a 2nd to dump Goodrow's contract. The extra 2 years overlap with exactly when MTL will start to need that space, so it may just be completely untenable.

Its not hard to find "leadership" in free agency for cheap if that's your only consideration and they don't even need that kind of leadership. Montreal has also been managing their cap with a view on the 2025 offseason, so this just hurts them. And as bad as Armia's contract is and has been and as flawed a player he is, based on this season I'd rather have him on the ice than Goodrow.

Montreal may be willing to make a swap, but If you think adding a Bedard or a 2nd (or even a late 1st) makes it worthwhile for Montreal then you're wrong.

Goodrow is a gritty blue collar guy. Armia is an irregular powerfoward.

If you took the time to look at their playoffs stats:

Armia: 10 goals/15 points in 44 games
Goodrow: 6 goals/16 points in 81 games

That's double the production. Let that sinks in.

So both teams would benefit from the new guy's style right now, but there is just no way MTL takes on Goodrow's last 2 years. Unless NY pays for a $7M dump.

The habs arent likely buying out armia he will be in laval next year. Years 2-6 is when they need cap and goodrows buyout is over 3 million in year 3 alone.
