Steve Staios goes out and gets him and head coach John Gruden their star player from their Memorial Cup winning Hamilton Bulldogs team, and in the process shatters the country club atmosphere of the Ottawa Senators. Thomas is a player who also happens to be close with Brady Tkachuk.

No reason for either team to do this. Alot more could go wrong for both teams than could go right. I'd imagine both teams are pretty happy with their guy too. Both are really good young 1Cs.

I don't think you're wrong. The idea behind the trade comes from most GMs and coaches having a bias towards players they have won with, and the rumors that Ottawa might try to send a lightning bolt through their core. Add in the connection between Thomas and the Tkachuk family, it has a pretty solid backstory for a trade proposal.

If I am St.Louis, I would absolutely do this, but I agree that it is unlikely that either side would do this in real life. It's too much risk.

Thomas is the better player right now, but Stutzle has the higher ceiling, and his floor is not that far below where Thomas is now. Stutzle also does not have a full-NTC, Thomas does starting in 2025 until 2030. Stutzle only has a 10-team NTC. That gives St.Louis a lot more flexibility long-term.

Isn't it just as likely that if they're wanting to do that and the Tkachuk base is the main reason that we would prefer to do Kyrou for Brady?

Keith is still within St Louis' front office. Pretty sure we were heavy in on Matthew.

The only difference at the moment which i'm not sure if Stutzle is is Thomas is our matchup 1C. He's literally playing against all top lines along with Parayko and Leddy. He's doing an extremely good job of doing it as well. Potential is great and all, but our guy has been extremely good for us. Grass isn't always greener.

Hahahaha what??? Thomas is not available. And he's not yet at his ceiling, either. And he's on a better contract. And the future Blues captain (which he probably should be now). Not a chance.
