Wheeler won’t be getting traded. He’s not fast and never has been but that was known before hand. He might be on the 4th or healthy scratch come TDL/playoffs but won’t be traded.

Chicago is in a rebuild so I highly doubt this trade goes down.

No reason to trade away depth in Wheeler, Pitlick and Bonino. The obsession people have with Senko to waste another 1st on him is absurd. We’d be better off trying to get someone for more than just 1 year to fill the RW spot than throwing away picks each year. Kakko is coming back, but there’s no telling how he’ll play post injury. The biggest need is a 3C on this team.3C is more important than top 6 RW in my opinion.

Wheeler isn't waiving for Chicago. And while the Hawks forward group might be decimated by injuries, Pitlick and Wheeler don't exactly fill that need for the Hawks. All their bottom 6 guys are still healthy.

There is absolutely no reason for the Hawks to do this deal, they would be doing the Rangers a favour by taking these two unproductive 30+ players off their hands AND paying for that privilege? I honestly don’t think the Hawks would be making this trade if the pick was going the other way.

It’s not really a favour. Both can be waived. Wheeler’s production is no different than the last 4-5 seasons. Only difference is PP1 time being removed from him. NYR doesn’t do this move to begin with.

Both forwards are on expiring contracts, Hawks have a ridiculous amount of forwards on IR, it’s only a 6th going back. I don’t see a big deal with the Hawks accepting this trade.

Wheeler was the jets captain when they had all that locker room drama. Definitely don't want him coming into the hawks locker room especially if foligno is out for any amount of time.

You make an excellent point.
My thought process was that the likelihood that a 6th rounder turns into a player is so remote who cares & 2 veterans that wouldn’t be around next season would probably be looked at by the players & coaching staff as welcome reinforcements.
Even though I do not know what happened in the jet’s locker room, you are correct. Any potential issues that could be brought into the Gawks locker room is not worth it.
So maybe a move like this would be good, this particular one should be passed on.
