Realistic Offers For TDL Sens Assets

Created by: BillytheKid3
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2024
Published: Jan. 6, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Any team that requires rentals for the PO's, this is most likely the asking price for Sens roster players. This more focuses on draft picks so you can work in roster players as you see fit for cap reasons.

Giroux would cause a bidding war in my opinion, I'd be really interested to see what teams would offer for someone like him. Especially with 1 year left on his deal at seasons end.

Below are the guys I see the Sens keeping and re-structuring around.

Giroux would be closer a 2nd and a good prospect. His NMC erases the “bidding war” scenario as he’s likely give maybe 3 teams that’d he go to. Teams knowing they’re in that list wouldn’t overpay.

Chabot isn’t getting a 1st round pick without retention. He’s not worth his contract and his play has only gotten worse since he signed his extension. It’s pretty laughable to think you’d get close to what Lindholm got.

I don’t see Brannstrom being worth a pick - more likely getting a player back that needs a change of scenery. He’s a bottom pair defender that doesn’t have much potential left. Those are a dime a dozen and a team wouldn’t give a 2nd for him. 3rd maybe, but at that point it doesn’t make sense for Ottawa

Giroux had an NTC when he went to florida too but they still got a 1st and Tippett, and that was without the extra year he would have now.

The Chabot and Lindholm situations are not perfect parallels because they’re different player types, but it’s probably not as far fetched of a comparison as you’re making it out to be.

That was with 50% retention, and a NTC would allow him to be waived if he falls off a cliff performance wise, NMC does not.

I think a team gambles on Giroux not falling off a cliff performance wise...

That being said, Giroux I feel has settled his family and plans to retire a Senator in Ottawa. Hence the NMC, this is all hypotheticals of course and fun to consider if he were open to being moved.

50% retention for 20 games doesn’t really mean a lot to me imo, was just to fit him onto the roster. I also doubt teams are trading for Giroux with the intention to waive him in the last year of his deal. his play revolves around his puck smarts and positioning, so I doubt would deteriorate enough to warrant being waived anyways

It also meant his cap hit was ~4 million so it was easier to fit him on a roster, not 6.5.

6.5 is still super palatable for pretty much any team given his quality of play

Giroux gets a 1st rounder for sure! BUT... Sens need to keep Giroux IMO. With Stu, Brady, and Sanderson they're in retool mode, not rebuild mode. And G is key for quality veteran experience.
Only way G is traded is if he demands it. Not sure that happens unless they suck again next year.

Palatable perhaps, but I don't think there's a lot of excess value there, so why is a team giving up premium assets for that? The acquiring team would have to view him as the missing piece AND have enough cap space to take him AND be a team he would waive for.

If he moves, I don't think he brings back a first round pick unless Ottowa retains salary.

G is necessary on this team and the only way he gets traded is if he demands out, which I don't see happening because he plans to retire a Senator and is raising a young family in OTT

That was the consensus we reached between a couple of threads including this one lol. One of my comments above somewhere I think.

Lots going on in Sens Capfriendly land today lol.
