Buffalo says no. Myers has little to no value at 6M, and currently has more value to the Canucks than he would in a trade seeing as Hronek is our only other RHD capable of playing big minutes. But if we moved him we aren’t getting a 2nd round pick+

I expect both teams to say no actually.

Buffalo won't be paying a 2nd round pick for a rental.

Vancouver is right near the tops of the league. I don't see how this trade makes them better. May as well keep their d man. Myers may not be worth 6m a year but he is a solid D none the less.

I thought so.
I was just making assumptions as I go along.

Out of playoffs Sabres have no desire to give up anything for a upcoming UFA.

Wouldn't give you Greenway strait up for Myers let alone add a pick

That's "Calder Cup winning defensemen as a Buffalo Sabres player" Tyler Meyers!! How can you say no to him?? It's like saying no to Gilbert Perreault or Tom Barrasso (Hall of Famers).

What would Sabres be interested in Myers ? Let alone Greenway is playing good, has decent contract and giving 2nd on top of that ?

I've heard a rumor that Vancouver was interested in Greenway.
If they want Greenway they might have to trade a player like Hoglander plus a prospect player, in my opinion.

There's a general assumption that greenway is non starter because the current head coach loves him

But....There's a non insignificant chance the current head coach isn't next years head coach. This move was basically a favour to him. If he's on his way out, I could see them moving greenway to free up salary.

How about I take Myers of your hands with say Tom Willander for Greenway, McCarthy, and 2024 2nd

I...I don't even know what it would take to have the Sabres move on from granato. Probably a 5 game or more losing streak- after the bills season has ended, presumably- so that pegula actually notices. Maybe?

Even if they go on a huge streak theyre very likely going to underperform most projections and miss the playoffs. If they're of the belief that the talent here is good enough, then it falls almost squarely on the coach. You can say the team was too young, but frustration has kind of peaked with the fans. They'll have to cook somebody, and the coach is usually the easiest. Especially if the current coach isn't capable of getting them to play a more structured game without sacrificing all their offense.

All this to say, it wouldn't surprise me if they made moves at the deadline that worked at cross purpose to what the head coach would want, if they know he wont be there next year.

I can see Ellis going into the volcano. The pp is remarkably bad, not sure how much to put into Seth appert jumping Ellis to be interim coach- but it's something, and granato has said he's going to be more involved with the power play. I think the only question is -will granato allow his assistants to be fired from underneath him? If granato allows Ellis to swing, he might keep his job for at least part of next year. That's a great point you make about the deadline, be interesting to see if granato gets a say still.
