I couldn't agree more. He's so soft and despite having 60~ points 20~ goals the last 2 years he's not a difference maker.

Zegras is weird. He can pull out these insane highlight reel plays, but at the same time despite all that skill I could see him being a career 70 point player. I am not going to say he is overated, because he is young and still developing.

Lol. I'd love to see a list of each team's most overrated player based on the insane trade values their fans assign them in ACGMs.

when a young guy gets a down year, he suddenly becomes overated and apparently you should be willing to trade him for a late first. People were saying the same thing about nylander and drai the year after they signed their contract too.

Some of the trades are pretty wild, but I do think there could be something to the whole "Ducks don't need to move him so you'll have to overpay" mentality.

Zegras has crazy skill. From what I can tell, he needs to get his head on a bit straighter if he wants to be great. Dude could be a star in this league for a long time though, and that type of ceiling ain't cheap.

He suits non playoff teams nicely. He doesn't have the defensive drive or hard game to fit on a contender @ 5.8m. We only got Blais & 2nd for Buch cause NYR & all other teams didn't want to spend 5.8m in important cap. Yet Zegras is young, has cute skill and gets points, like Spooner did, will still fetch a 1st & 2nd from someone

i don't think anaheim is planning on trading him at his lowest value. them getting gauither doesn't mean they're planning on yeeting zegras into the void at the next opportunity.

I think fans overexaggerate in both directions when a player is involved frankly. I think the best way to look at it, is to not ask what would you do/accept but rather what would a real GM do. Generally its something in the middle of both fans bases. Not nearly as much as the ANA fans think and definitely more than what many other fans bases think is fair.

With that said, Zegras is legit good. He has his warts for sure but so do all players. Especially at his age. People forget how young he still is. There are players drafted in the same 1st round as him that are playing their rookie season this year... His game only gets better and more rounded from here on for the next 4-5 years. Not to mention that playing in Anaheim these past years only magnifies the warts. On the flipside, we don't praise enough his positives despite being on the worst team in the league since he came turned pro on Feb 5th 2021.

Anaheim playing hard ball with him this summer and his rough start to the year doesn't mean he's lost all his value. Its for sure not as high as it was at the end of last year but its still pretty darn high. Every team in the league wants this guy, that should tell you something.
