TDL Selloff plus Zegras in the Offseason

Created by: Pens3lieve
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2024
Published: Jan. 11, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This post assumes:
-PIT falls out of it and sells off Jake and Ned at the TDL
-Dubas acquires a top-of-the-lineup type-ish player (Zegras)
-All acquisitions have shorter term contracts which leaves PIT in a position to sell many assets at the next TDL if things go south again
-Most if not all the acquisitions I made in this hypothetical post are or have been rumoured to be available through trade recently or thereabouts

No chance Nieto and Ned is worth a 2nd let alone a potential 1st rounder. Canucks easily decline. Can’t see that offer getting zegras. The best piece would be the pens pick cause it could be a high draft pick but with top 10 protection it’s not really worth much.

That’s a hell of a package you want for Ned.

    3rd rounder, keep it simple

Ned gets a 2nd easily as EDM, TOR, NJD, DET, CAR, COL, SEA at least would be interested... Ned will prob be the best G available at the TDL if things go south for PIT...

the VAN trade was just 2 struggling wingers swapping... I don't think it's unrealistic if both teams were wanting a change of scenery...but PIT should add something to that trade...

Zegras is interesting bc although he's scored some sick goals, he has not yet put up star numbers so I do believe any offer would start with 3 good assets so I view him kind of as Chychrun in that his team doesn't have to move him bc he's young still but he like Chychrun is not a #1/#2 forward or D but more of a #3 on a championship team quote on quote...

A grab bag of spare parts doesn't get you Zegras. Pens have nothing in their system that is shiny enough to get Verbeek to pull the trigger.

normally I'd agree with a 3rd give or take, but if Ned keeps playing the way he is rn, he would be the top G available and as I mentioned above, there are 5+ teams that would pony up to get him... so I don't believe a 2nd plus a prospect or two is unrealistic at all in that case... like this post assumes a lot of stuff in the future for sure... so I doubt everything plays out like this...

Okay...NJD would pass. We have plenty of forwards, need dman.

Ur delusional and living in fantasy land if you think a 4th liner is returning a 2nd it’s just completely unrealistic

Ned is a backup and was one of the worst goalies in the league last year. He’s a good depth piece but there’s other goalies on the market. A lot of the teams listed won’t make the playoffs so they aren’t trading for a backup rental. I think a third is more than fair

what 4th liner? the NJD trade was based around the goalie Nedjeljovic...?!

I won't argue ned had a rough couple years but to be fair that was playing behind a terrible team that had a horrible team defence... but he was great in CAR and has been great in PIT... so if he plays behind a team that isn't horrible he should be just fine...

Two unsigned shot-in-the-dark prospects, an AHLer-for-life bust, a pick in the 20's, and a future first that is valuable only if it lands between 11 and 16 . . .

    I don't think so.
