don’t know much about klimovich. but it’s going to take a 1st rounder for Monahan. Arizona probably passes they really like Crouse and rightfully so. He’s been there since day1.

I'm not usually one for going all in, but this feels more measured to me. Sure the Coyotes and Habs fans are going to scream about the return not being enough, but from my perspective the return, albeit high (from my perspective), feels about right. I'm less fussed with Monahan but, he's probably the most reasonable center Canucks could get without mortgaging the farm. Crouse on the other hand would be a fine addition. All in all a well thought through and measured proposal.

Well done!

I agree with you.
Lawson Crouse has been the best player for Arizona and they’re not trading him for sure.
I would agree with you on adding a first round pick in the first trade.

A lot of nothing for Monahan.
Nope.
That offer is easily beat by a dozen teams.
He has no trade protection and is a 50 pt two way, faceoff winning center.
That return needs a 1st plus

I don't think Monahan ends up getting a 1st. It's definitely possible but I don't think it's going to happen.

Arizona isn’t trading crouse for Pettersson’s backboard. I like Kuzmenko, but look at his heat map from last year, he was a back door tap in merchant. He doesn’t forecheck, he’s not a power forward like crouse, what’s the incentive for Arizona? For reference

Monahan hasn’t scored 50+ points since 2018/19, has an extensive injury history, has nearly half his production this season on the PP, which he wouldn’t play on for the Canucks, has been bad defensively this season, and has bad on ice metrics this season (42.78 xGF%, 44.31 CF%)

You’ll be lucky to get a 1st for him

Add to that he’s UFA & if he can a 1st why didn’t it happen last season or this season already or signed for more as a UFA.

Context. This is the same as saying why didn't Chris Tanev get traded for a 1st instead of walking to free agency and signing with the Flames while now, most assuredly, he will be dealt for a 1st. Details matter.

Monahan makes less money this year and there's this thing called the cap which makes him easier to fit in a team's salary structure as opposed to other options like a Lindholm that cap teams cant afford not to mention he's healthy and having a better season than last season.

Being a UFA can be a bonus to certain teams that want flexbility, you arent selling to 1 team but 31 other teams and teams couldnt pay him during the offseason in a tight cap with the Habs/Monahan coming to an agreement that the signing would be conditional on a trade during the year leading to the TDL. Thats called asset management.

-Low cost AAV
-No trade protection
-50 pt pace
-2 way center
-wins faceoffs

Those are the facts and Kent Hughes is a tough negotiator which is why Hughes will go for a much bigger return than the same doubters whom thought that Chiarot, Lehkonen, Toffoli wouldn't go for a 1st plus.

Most people on this site expected Toffoli to get a 1st+, and most thought Calgary got him at a really good value at the time of the trade

Habs fans also said Petry and Edmundson would return a 1st+ and told other fanbases to not bother making offers for them if they didn’t start with a 1st round pick
