Description
Huberdeau is, what he's always been. What he's always been, is a very good, second line, powerplay merchant. He draws players to him, and makes low probability plays to the middle of the ice. He's pretty good at pulling them off, but they're still low probability plays and they will bite you from time to time. He definitely struggled mightily to start the season, but hopefully his time with Backlund has helped to round out his game.

To that point, as much as I would disagree with breaking up the Kadri line, if we're going to shelter Zary with offensive starts, it might as well be with Huby.

Load up Lindholm and Kadri, I think they look really good together. Let's pump Lindholm's tires before the TDL.

If Hanifin is staying, get him back up on the top pair. The idea of paying him more than Weegar to play under him, annoys me. I also prefer Hanifins size paired with Andersson. It's also working at the moment, so maybe don't touch it.

With Weegar on the left, we need more RD, we need more D period, but Kylington and Poirier might fill in on the left at some point.

If Kylington comes back, should we keep Tanev? If he's willing to sign a reasonable contract, I don't mind giving him term. LTIR exists for a reason.

I blame no one for not bothering to read this brick wall of text.

Purple monkey dishwasher.

Bad, I already admitted it was bad, but it clears cap next year.

I don't think he looks awful, but he's just not producing and not getting minutes because of it. There are at least 10-11 players out playing him at the moment. To be honest, I think the 4th line is looking less impressive now that the top lines are actually rolling.

Why do we need to clear cap for next year? Even if Calgary keeps Hanifin that leaves us at 23.5M cap space to fill out 1 top 4 defenseman and and depth players

I think there's a deal to be made for Dube but you'd be selling low on him imo.

If were going to find that elite forward we need, its gonna cost, and I'm working under the assumption we keep Tanev, maybe even Lindholm if he signs a 7.5m 1 or 2 year contract, hoping to boost his value. Although I don't know why he'd do it here.

I'd like to believe so, but no contender wants his cap hit, the Flames hate retaining and the Hawks could just claim him if he gets waived.

There are no elite forwards this offseason. There is a reason Lindholm is the #1 player on the market. I think it's a very safe bet that both Lindholm and Tanev are gone, I wouldn't work under the assumption they are staying at all of(especially on that deal lol). The only one that should be considered for potentially staying is Hanifin.

Also Calgary would be absolutely moronic to hand out another big contract this summer on someone like Guentzel or Reinhart. Both players will be 30 and 29 by the start or early in the season next year. Not to mention neither of them solve the issue of Calgary won't have a 1C.

I don't disagree with any of that, but if you don't proactively create cap space, you end up paying a 1st to move Monahan to get something when it becomes available.

We are proactively creating cap space by not making any more huge signings on 29+ players. Mangiapane will be a player in high demand next year too.

Hawks accept!

Have liked Dube for a while... Hawks will give him time in the remainder of the season to re-gain himself!
