Calgary isn't doing this. I get that Huberdeau's contract is dead weight. But it isn't 10MM in dead weight. It's realistically 5MM in dead weight. Let's say he puts up 50pts again...he is still overpaid. However lots of 50pt players are getting 5MM.
Calgary's return isn't going to push them into the playoffs, so they are giving up 2 high 1sts to dump 5MM and hopefully replace him with a 50pt 5MM guy.
They are better off selling their UFAs and brining in some young kids who, hopefully, find some chemistry with him. Dallas did the same with Seguin and Benn. They couldn't move either contract, and drafted well enough to keep their team competitive. Thus, Calgary's biggest need is prospects and picks, not 5MM in cap space.
Oh, and their are conditions tied to their firsts for the other idiotic BT trade to dump Monahan
