I don't see either CGY or CHI doing that trade. Hawks need to stick with the plan. Develop from within and with intention.

Hawks have enough picks and prospects. What they won’t have enough of is cap space in 4-5 years with an acquisition like this.

Calgary isn't doing this. I get that Huberdeau's contract is dead weight. But it isn't 10MM in dead weight. It's realistically 5MM in dead weight. Let's say he puts up 50pts again...he is still overpaid. However lots of 50pt players are getting 5MM.

Calgary's return isn't going to push them into the playoffs, so they are giving up 2 high 1sts to dump 5MM and hopefully replace him with a 50pt 5MM guy.

They are better off selling their UFAs and brining in some young kids who, hopefully, find some chemistry with him. Dallas did the same with Seguin and Benn. They couldn't move either contract, and drafted well enough to keep their team competitive. Thus, Calgary's biggest need is prospects and picks, not 5MM in cap space.

Flames don’t even consider this. How does it benefit us? The whole point of moving Huberdeau would be to have a complete fire sale and rebuild, no? So getting rid of 2 firsts and Suniev would actively hamper that idea.

Hawks aren't touching that Huberdeau contract. They don't need those two extra picks that bad.

If that 2024 1st round pick were to get into like the top 8 range, I might have to think about it a little bit more. But, ultimately, taking on that kind of cap hit for 7 years just doesn't fit CHI's plans at all. Buying him out at any point doesn't really help either, because of the way his contract is structured. It'd be a huge gamble that does have potential to pay off in the end, but the odds are very low.

Hawks take that and run and would be stupid not to.. huby and two 1sts?!?
