The actual defensive game isn't really there but if he is playing with half decent linemates he is usually effective

Like every other NHL organization does for their prospects. The Flames spent the last 5 years doing that, he's been given more opportunity than he earned more often than not.

I edited my last comment to include some more information on the "why", a little late. Ruzicka looks like a better bet than Andersson and Stephens to me. Also not sure Andersson could play C in the NHL, I have seen him dressed as a winger in Laval often. Newhook did not work at C.

This Ruzicka put up pretty decent numbers last year offensively for a guy that played 11 minutes / game (1.9 P/60 which is higher than someone like KK for example who we lost has ever put up) and he has average defensive metrics too which is all we could honestly for with a 4C. At a less than league minimum contract? Why not.

Thanks, for the edited post, ok now I get why everyone is wanting to claim him and I can get on that idea too. I just didn't want to put in a claim on someone else like L Anderson or Stephens just to waive him in a couple weeks when Newhook gets back

It wasn't that I was opposed to claiming him it was that I don't know the player well and didn't want to make a claim just to waive him once Newhook was healthy
