Description

Buffalo is in need of some toughness and a bit of a rework. They still have a lot of talent coming from their prospect pool that will mature. Buffalo is gaining ground. AZ on the other hand is in a similar boat but have been a lot more strategic with their approach in drafting talent but also acquiring young role players through other means. I see some potential for both teams to come out with more of what they need in a trade.

Additional Details:

Neither Mittelstadt nor Jokiharju seem to be long term fits for BUF but both could fill role player positions in AZ that need attention.

Both Players would be part of the AZ contract extension sweepstakes coming in the 2024 offseason. Both could see 2-4 year extensions offered.

Sabres would want a good player in return of Mittelstadt not bottom of the lineup players.

Nope, that isn't close. We are trading away 2 players with value for nothing that will be of value to the sabres for atleast 2/3 years in the second round pick and is a lot less valuable than Mittelstadt.

Maybe Buffalo would do this type of trade for a player like Schmaltz or try Simashev or But (although i doubt that interests the Sabres,)

Mittelstadt is an amazing passer and has a lot of skills that are quite valuable, a great 2C who makes those he plays with better...he currently has 40pts, with only 6 coming on the power play. joker isn't a major piece but he is a OK 2RD, and a good 3rd and is a decent depth player.

Here is the harsh truth.
If the Sabres wanted Brown or O'Brian they have signed them just as Arizona did.
At 23 yo Jenik would not crack Buffalo's top 10 prospect list.
Remove either second and Casey for a more competitive value
