Normally, I would be against adding another LHD and small forward but this offer isn't half bad.

No. He's a hyper aggressive player with skill but not nearly as much skill as Panarin or Kaprizov. I see him as a middle six forward who can put up points and kill penalties. He projects as a valuable player but not a franchise type guy.

That said, it took a lot of convincing to get him to come over. The Avs aren't moving him.

Rumors - NO. Wishful thinking - YES. Avs have been waiting patiently waiting for Kova's KHL contract to end to bring him over for a couple years now, even signing him early (burning a year of ELC) just to be able to have him here at the end of the season. SM is not an elite talent,. He is not a clear up grade for the Avs at C and will not command that type of return. A 1st is pushing it for SM, he will net you all a 2nd and a good prospect. We only gave up a 2nd and a B prospect (Barron) when we got Lehky from them. Lehky >>>>Mony. This trade has been panned by everyone in denver since it was posted wherever it was posted (espn, i think). It's simply not realistic and if this is the market for centers, the Avs might as well just sit at the deadline and wait and see how Ryjo does between Lehky & Nuke.

This is an embarrassing trade that doesn’t get considered for a second by Colorado. But let’s play pretend:

Kovalenko is a star in the KHL and his dad is a high up in the Russian federation. Something like that.

We weren’t even confident he would ever come over the NHL and we had to get him to burn an ELC year to do so.

Can you imagine the blowback if you trade that dude before he steps foot in Denver? He may not even report to Montreal and the Avs just ruined all credibility with their Russian pipeline for years.

Kovalenko basically has an NMC at this point.
