rempe would be interesting, i think that value is moderatley fair. for saros, i think you can get more. i understand the down year, but you're not necessarily getting much in return for a perennial top 10 goalie. the trade with cbj would need more going their way, they spent a lot to acquire him

nah we'd take a second for boqvist. the seth jones trade went great for us even if cole sillinger and david jiricek were the only returns. also got jake bean out of it, who has been serviceable enough.

the total would be an absolute win for us

in:
2024 late second
Cole Sillinger
David Jiricek
Jake Bean

out:
Seth Jones (wouldn't re-sign anyways)
Last pick in the 2021 first round (yet to make NHL debut)
2022 6th rounder

Novak is tough to gauge. I think, if the Avs were to give up a 1st (which is unlikely), they would go for someone with at least a little term and cost certainty like Frost. But maybe Novak would come in around the same price so, IDK. Neither are a 2C but I'd take the one that's a better fit than RyJo.

That’s fair I think Novak would take his game to another level on Colorado. A lot of the value of Novak is his low cap hit so he can’t fit into any teams cap situation this season. Because so many teams contending would need a dollar in dollar out trade

I suppose I don't know enough about him to be able to tell but if he's better than RyJo, it could work but I think, if I'm the Avs and giving up a 1st, I'd be asking the other team to take RyJo back (and throw in a sweetener like Olausson or Behrens) which would mean NSH would be out. But the value is probably fair-ish.

If the Avs paid a 2nd for Colton, I don't think they'd trade a 1st for Novak

I get what you're saying BUT that was in the offseason; prices are lower at that time.

Also Novak a pending UFA, just sign him in the offseason. He is just starting to carve out an nhl job. Ross was coming off 2 cup wins. Its redundent at best. Maybe if Novak wanted to sign a sub 2m deal, I would be cool with it. Would rather run league min Pavel next season instead of spending a 1st and cap space on Novak.

Colton only won one Cup with TB; he wasn't on the 2019-2020 team but I get your point. I wasn't thinking of Novak as a 4C; my idea is to find a way to dump Joey and get a not-quite-2C replacement to be a stopgap until Ritchie can come in. But I do think you're right that it's probably not a great idea to spend a 1st on Novak. How would you feel about doing that for Frost?

Theyre two players who are coming from a strong accountability environment, I don't know enough about Frost to have a good pov.

Yeah, I wonder if they're basically interchangeable; Novak is a bit bigger while Frost is more experienced although not by a lot. To me, Frost might be worth it because he's already on a good contract through next season while the price for Novak could be pushed up a bit in UFA but I doubt anyone gives him a huge contract based on what he's done so far so maybe they could get him for something like $2.25Mx3. I do think either is a decent target due to the value they could give on the sort of contract they'd get. If they have 2C-light potential, could be good options to put between strong wingers and ride the next few years out as they bring Ritchie in to groom him to take the 2C spot eventually.
