Realistic giroux trade

Created by: JeffW
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2024
Published: Feb. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wondering what a realistic cost for giroux would be to colorado, knowing he'd have to waive his nmc.

Colorado would be willing to move any prospect not named richie, guluyev, or byram...

Also to make the money work Ottawa would have to take johansen back

anything that involves the words "giroux trade" cannot also include the word "realistic"

There is nothing realistic about Giroux to Colorado. He didn't waive to you 2 years ago so he's not going to waive to now

Realistically, you'd have to pay a 2nd just for us to take on Johansen's contract.

The rest of the package doesn't get Giroux because the Sens have no reason to trade him.

A 1st, an b+ defensive prospect, and a c/c+ scoring winger prospect is spare parts?

He already went for a 1st 3rd and Tippett when tippet wasn't good

He didn't waive because he wanted more PP time that he wasn't getting in Colorado that he got in Florida, then the avs won the cup and I think he may regret that

That's a baseless claim. I would say it's equally as likely he didn't waive there because he didn't want to deal with western travel. He then signed with his hometown team and most certainly isn't going anywhere now

The reason to trade him would be the fact that Ottawa is 5th last in the league, he's 36, and he hasn't won the cup.... because of his decision to go to Florida instead 2 years ago.

That's also possible, but would you rather compete for the most prestigious championship in your chosen sport or retire on your hometown bottom feeding team.

Nobody knows whats going on in Giroux's head. I think its plausible that he just wants to stay in his hometown for the rest of his career, but its also plausible that he regrets choosing FLA over COL after watching COL win a cup and he may want another shot at it. When he signed in Ottawa they were an up and coming team expected to compete for the duration of his contract - now that we know they arent maybe he is thinking twice about going for another cup run elsewhere. Unless he has recently released a statement about staying in Ottawa then nobody can say for sure what he wants to do - and its all up to him with his NMC anyway

If Giroux wants to compete for a cup in his last couple years then I think this is a pretty fair offer, but it really depends on how many teams he would be willing to waive to. If he is willing to waive for a bunch of teams then it may take more than this, but if he is only willing to waive for COL then it probably would take less

I think he is quite happy where he is. Afaik he bought a big piece of land in the Ottawa area when he arrived and is very content. maybe he'll chase it in the last year of his current deal but he's not going to make his family move for that.

    A late first is ok.

A LD defensive prospect is not desirable. Sens have plenty of LD. Sanderson, Chychrun, Chabot, Brannstrom. All currently playing, all LD, all early/mid 20s. If they trade one or two? Cool, they have Kleven. Not to mention Donovan and Hamara are decent prospects too. Although probably need some more AHL on those two.

I'll take your word that he's a c+ winger. That's what, bottom 6 projection? Sens have plenty of those too! Crookshank, Jarventi, Boucher, Ostapchuk, to name a few.

    So yeah, spare parts.

Giroux is much, much more valuable to the Sens than a late 1st. If he wants to leave and demands a trade, I'd imagine he'd waive for Vancouver, Boston, or Winnipeg, all better options to win it this year.

Finally, Giroux does not want to play center. When the Sens where dealing with injuries at center this year, they were playing Chartier in the top 6, even though Giroux was right there, because Giroux doesn't want to play center. He hasnt played center for years.
