Jake Canes

Created by: PensGMwannabe
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2024
Published: Feb. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think the Pens are still going to try to remain competitive. If they do trade Jake I don't know if they will want only prospects and picks back. Carolina is intriguing. They have good prospects and Bunting who Dubas likes. Jake is a legit upgrade on Bunting.

Not sure if that's too much from Carolina. But I think there is something there with Bunting ++ for Jake.

Team needs offensive depth. This helps.

No chance from the canes. We don’t do expensive rentals and wont extend him for big money

Just keep the two assets and give LA a 2nd round pick for Kaliyev.

I like Guentzel, but this is WAY too much. Drop Nadeau and the Canes consider it. He's a rental, and doesn't have this kind of value without a reasonable extension

Thanks for the feedback. I really wasn't sure about the Canes prospects. You think they will have interest if Jake is made available? Canes don't go big name shopping usually.

They go big name shopping, but Don doesn't overpay. They went in on Meier, Karlsson, Kane, Tarasenko, but other teams overpay.

For Guentzel specifically, not really. Carolina's strength is down the wings with Jarvis, Necas, Teravainen and Svechnikov. C would be much more sensible to go shopping for, but they won't be afraid of pulling the trigger if the price is right.

teams pay the approproate prices for good players. don is stingy, which is why carolina will be a perpetual mediocre playoff team

Don doesn't overpay, there's a difference between knowing where to draw the line and being stingy. It's why Carolina will perpetually be a contender and replace free agent losses with the young kids they do not move.

he cares about selling seats, not winning. he wont do what it takes and drop a bag on a big name player because his team will remain good enough to make the playoffs and sell seats. its a business.

canes dont and wont have what it takes to bring home another cup as long as he's at the helm

Right, because Waddell is the one that makes money for the seats. Don wants to win, and it's why we've won a round in the postseason every year under his tenure. The Canes have been to the conference finals twice, and will likely be in that conversation again this year. The Canes will be closer to a cup with him than without him, and that is just a cold hard fact.

he doesn't money from the seats, but when the big wigs make money, so does he. he keeps his job. 90% of gms dont really care about winning, they care about winning a round or two and selling some seats.

How do you figure? Winning means keeping you job and getting paid more money. Winning a round or two only works for so long.
