I feel like Monahan was the first step in a trade series for either PLD or Zegras, the timing is just too convenient, Hughes wouldn't just trade away our only other healthy top 6 center without a plan to replace him. Dach and Dvorak are done for the year, Newhook hasn't done well at center and Evans, Condotta and Stephens don't have the offensive game to play higher up. I get the sense something else is in the works.

1) Carter isn't being traded.
2) He's actually been good this year. He's still overpaid, but the Pens don't need to pay to move him anymore. Retain? Sure, but not paying and we can actually get something better than future considerations.
