Additional Details:
Supposedly Dowd could return a first round pick according to multiple reports from Frank Seravalli and Bob Stauffer (EDM media)

Maybe Edmonton doesn’t want to give up the pick, but it’s possible another contender will if they think it completes their team.

COL currently has 8 defenseman they are comfortable dressing why would they want another especially when their biggest needs are C and back up goalie.

I could see a team giving up a non-lottery 1st for Dowd. But I would bet that the Caps will be giving back at least a 4th/3rd in the same deal.

Also, would you rather move TVR or Jensen at the deadline? (Given that they fetch similar returns)

assuming you would rather see TVR go based on the post, but just wondering.

Earlier in the season, I would’ve said Jensen. He’s picked it back up recently. I think I’d rather TVR go but not sure.

Then it could be another team.

To clarify what Bob Stauffer said. He didn’t say Dowd could return a 1st straight up. He said that money matters in this league, Dowds got term, Dowd is only a 1.4M cap hit IF Washington gets creative and and retains half and throws in a 4th round pick then he could see Dowd returning a 1st.

So it’s more like

1st

For

Dowd (50% retained)
4th

Which is more reasonable.

2 years of a bottom 6 center at below league minimum who PKs and is good at faceoffs and logs important minutes returns a first, yes.

Not 1st for Dowd straight up.

I’d easily add a 4th in this trade to make it work personally.

Think of the Lars Eller trade from last season. That’s about what Dowd gets in return at most

Dowds a very interesting player but a 1st is still a 1st and you only have so many of those in the chamber.

For the Oilers a 4C would be nice but I’d say it’s a like number 3 or 4 on the priority list. First priority would be Top 4 RD, then Top 6 Right wing, the tied for 3/4 would be Backup goalie or 4C. The reason we don’t need another center is cause we have so many already.

That said Bob was right to bring up the Caps as an interesting team. Jensen is interesting, Mantha is interesting, Lindgren is interesting, and so is Dowd. A blockbuster deal could be had here if that could see multiple 1sts and high end prospects moving to Washington.

MF watch SM get a 1st and 3rd then act like a bottom 6 top tier defensive center shouldn’t get a similar return. Dowd makes 1.3m for the next 2 seasons. Plays 16m /gm vs teams top lines. Folks are fairly clueless about how good he really is. Realistically overall he’s better than SM who has like 5? More 5v5 points than Dowd. Such an idiotic take. Same people last year said Orlov wouldn’t get a 1st

Dowd plays 16minutes a game. Hes a “4th line center” but he’s not like Reeves he plays a lot an he generally gets deployed in the Dzone.

I understand. I know a bit of his game, heavy D zone starts for sure. He’s interesting like I said. But still not a priority.
