Jarmo lets be friends 2024 draft

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2024
Published: Feb. 5, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2 possible trades:

1- If draft position stay the same (CLB, 4th and MTL, 7th): Habs could try to trade to swap first round pick to try to acquire one of those juicy forward prospect while CLB will still end up with one of the great RHD available at 7th while also getting more draft capital;

and/or

2- Kent Johnson could be an attractive candidate to join our young core under MSL. I wonder what the price could be (I'm ready to overpay).

I doubt both trade happen, but CLB looks more and more like a potential trade partner.

Jackets decline both. I could maybe see them trading 4 OA for 7OA and a late first if they have guys similarly ranked. Kent Johnson is untouchable

The "raw" difference between pick number 4 and pick number 7 (i.e., ignoring who's available and who isn't) is pick #35. A 2025 second is too speculative to close that gap even with a middling third added in.

CBJ are good on RD, Jiricek and Ceulemans are their top 4RD.

Columbus is hurting for elite/star players, Johnson looks like he could put it together and get there, even with Columbus management and coaching. It's tough to find that with mid- and late-first rounders.

Barron would be a nice upgrade, but we'd have to move at minimum two RD before that happens (likely Boqvist and Peeke). We'd be running Jiricek Barron and Severson down the right side, and scratching Gudbranson in all likelihood.

However, I think Columbus is content with picking Levshunov at 4 if he's available, trading one RD before next season, and trading another one next next offseason before bringing him in in 2025-26. Then we've got some high-end talent at positions of need (Johnson and Levshunov) instead of holes there and 4 more darts we don't need.

Fair enough.
