2C is probably their biggest hole - how are they a better team without a 35 goal scorer in that slot?

I was guessing.
But if the NYI are going to be sellers at the Trade Deadline, then it would make sense to trade him to the Avs.

Isles have no interest in an undersized Defenseman in Behrens.

Yeah the Avs should pass quite easily on that.

For a guy that will be 33 years old on an expiring contract next season? They make the meth real good out there on the Island.

Two years of a 35 goal center with a very reasonable cap hit isn't going to be cheap.

That's what it takes to move Nelson, not sure why everyone thinks he's suddenly available

Cheap or not it shouldn't be that expensive and quite simply won't be as the Avs would decline.

It isn't two years; it's about 17 games of regular season plus playoffs and another season. It doesn't matter anyhow because the Avs can't afford that and they aren't giving up that much capital.

I know the athletic posted it, but LOC is likely retiring an Av. He is not a guy they would likely ever trade.

Ryjo is still a solid middle 6 center, he just isn’t a style fit for COLs racetrack play speed. Nelson would do fine between lehkonen and big Val.

Ryjo would have to go, and would actually make some sense on NYI. He is great off the cycle and savvy with the puck and net front, he just is the 3rd or 4th best at most of those on the team currently.

I think the package is an overpay, but a worthwhile one to give yourself two years to bridge the gap to the next 2C. Lou gets a big center and picks and prospects to keep retooling.

Ritchie IS the 2C the Avs are trying to get to; terrible idea to trade a cost-controlled guy that could potentially fill that void for years at a reasonable price.

Cool. Then they can go find some other center to trade for because the Isles have no reason to trade him unless someone offers a king's ransom.
