Agressive Sell Scenario

Created by: Hockey_Soul
Team: 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2024
Published: Feb. 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a scenario where the CBJ sell all the guys that are being rumored around the deadline. This would also obviously be dependent on Laine coming out of the player assistance program before the deadline.

IMO this approach would only happen under a new GM, and I do not see Jarmo getting fired before the end of the season. This would be a clear signal that the franchise is committing to the longer term rebuild, Gaudreau signing be damned.

If Jarmo was in fact fired and a new GM went full fire sale at the deadline, I could also see a summer move that sends Boqvist and Sillinger somewhere for a higher quality center, like maybe Zegras or Barzal.

It's high, but that is what it would take. Colorado needs middle six centers and Boone would be a great fit. He also has extra value to contenders because he has some term left on a great contract.

Easy no for the Avs. You might think that's what it will take but I'm betting you're going to be very disappointed if you're hoping for that kind of return.

I'm hoping for 0 return because Jenner shouldn't be traded. However, if he is, it will be for a package like this.

Like I said, you're dreaming if you think that's the return.

Well that’s kind of the point. He either gets traded for an overpay or doesn’t get traded. When teams are asking for a first for guys like dowd and there’s nothing else good on the market then the jackets have the leverage for an asset they aren’t looking to trade.

I think if you're getting a 1st, you probably aren't getting Byram. And if you're getting Byram, you probably aren't getting the 1st. I absolutely understand why you'd ask for this, but I don't know how likely it would be

I still think Laine can get a good return. It’s pretty evident he isn’t the “raise all boats” type guy CBJ thought he would be (though, FWIW, it’s looking like PLD ain’t that either), but in the right situation (CAR, FLA, a few others come to mind), he’ll score a billion goals and have good value.

I tend to agree, I just don't think the demand is there and CBJ will have no leverage to deal him for any kind of decent return. Jenner on the other hand, I absolutely want to retire a Jacket, but he does have a high demand and CBJ have all the leverage, so he'd likely return more than his value in a vacuum - which people here don't seem to understand.

Thank you. Yes, that is exactly the point. The return is a dream, or there is no return. Jenner is a player in high demand and CBJ have all the leverage.

Obviously not all Jackets fans have calmed down as much as was thought on the over valuing of Jenner.
