laugh If Tomas Hertl is made available, That weak offer is definitely beaten to a pulp.

why? 1st plus b grade prospect for a player coming off a knee surgery? hertl has a full nmc as well. SJ doesnt have a lot of bargaining room here. they cant even really retain because they are already using 2 spots on karlsson and burns (both of whom went for much less than what i have boston giving up here)

He still has more value than a late 1st and B value prospect.

why? its basically what lindholm got, except lindholm was an easier contract to move and calgary had to take a cap dump back as well.

what do you think a 30 year old centre with a big contract coming off surgery is worth?

because fans don't think about the future or the contract. unless Hertl will be mysteriously getting hurt for the entirety of every season prior to the playoffs, i doubt the bruins have any interest in that contract.

GMs also don't think too far into the future on contracts. Sure, they make sure everything works out in the end and don't go too crazy, but most of them will pay a player for his expected performance in the first few years and extend the contract a few years at the end in order to compete to be able to sign him without worrying about the last 2-3 years on the deal.

i think that would be the case if they view the cap hit as an advantage for the first few years, being willing to take the hit of a bad deal for the last few years.

Hertl isn't worth that ticket now - it's just going to get worse. it's paying to take on debt.

Basically my thought process here is:

1) bruins were rumoured to be in on Lindholm but wanted him extended

2) hertl provides similar on ice value to lindholm and similar role and position

3) hertl and pastrnak have played together a few times before internationally

This makes up for them missing out on lindholm imo and is a long term solution for them up the moddle

ya, i don't see it. If it was me i would just say no thanks to hertl completely unless there was retention.

That’s fair. I am very on the fence about hertl

i'm already seeing a decline in play and would worry about a really really expensive buyout after a couple years.
