Primeau

Created by: lowblocksniper
Team: 2023-24 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2024
Published: Feb. 13, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
LAK
  1. Primeau, Cayden
  2. Wideman, Chris
  3. Ylönen, Jesse ($387,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Ylonen at 50% retention and takes Lizotte's spot on the 4th line for cap balance, Lewis moves to center

Wideman (if he comes back healthy before deadline, no clue if he's out all year or not) because I still think Clarke should be in the AHL playing full time until the play-offs instead of rotating in and out

Primeau doesn't improve your goaltending situation immediately but, it gives you a second young goalie with Portillo, he's cheap and signed for next year and an RFA after that. You can rotate Primeau and Rittich without losing either to waivers

Now that I think of it I'm not 100% sure what the appeal of either team would be but, I've typed this out so might as well see what people think
MTL
  1. Kaliyev, Arthur
  2. Lizotte, Blake
Additional Details:
If I'm Montreal, I'm more than happy to wait for Fowler and play Montembeault as the starter and since Allen's cap hit seems harder to move, why not move Primeau?

Not sure what MTL would ask for in terms of picks or is Kaliyev and interesting enough young forward? How much would you ask for an unproven young goalie? a 3rd? More?

LMAO, yeah. We don't need a fourth liner, yet another RD, or a mediocre at best goalie. Rittich has been lights out and is the 1A now. I don't think any of these options are upgrades.

Would, minus the retainage. I think MTL has other retainage-worthy "assets" that would fetch more if playoff teams NEED them and they wouldn't want to tie up their last spot to Ylonen.

interesting wideman is basically out for ever and montreal wont use there last retain slot for ylonen. maybe mtl adds kovacevic (similar d men while being cheap) and lak adds a 3/4 i think mtl does that

Primeau looked just promising as Fowler, if not more when he was an NCAA prospect too. Fowler is way out, I would hang on to Primeau in the meantime to bridge that gap.

It was part of the 3 team deal to get Peterson of the Kings' books.

primeau's value (based on useless trades habs fans have wanted to make with the flyers) is a 3rd, but i wouldn't go more than a 4th. this has been his best professional season and he's still been bad

Easy pass for the Kings. Primeau(.899 SV%, 3.36 GAA in 11 GP) is not playing any better than Talbot (.911/2.59 in 32 GP) or Rittich (.931/1.90 in 12 GP) have been this year, so sending out anything for him isn't a move I see them making. Wideman is a waste of a contract slot at this point, and when I look at the Kings' bottom-6 forward group, I don't see anyone that he would no-doubt slot in above. I think if the Kings are shopping Kaliyev, they would be able to get much better for him than a trio of spare parts.

As you note here, Cayden Primeau is not waivers-exempt, so that would reduce our skaters count. And Erik Portillo is probably just as good, if not better, a prospect than Primeau is.

Leave Chris Wideman out of this. His trade value is zero even if he comes off the IR list before his contract expires. If the coaching staff determines that Brandt Clarke will do better full-time in Ontario, they can put him there without needing a replacement.

Jesse Ylonen is only 2 years younger than Blake Lizotte but has 200 fewer NHL games on his resume. He has 28 points in 94 games and fewer points this season than the superannuated Trevor Lewis. We have 15 forwards on the roster now with Viktor Arvidsson coming off the IR list and all of them are more valuable to us than Ylonen would be.

In short, we might -- MIGHT -- pay the same third for Primeau that we paid for Portillo. The other two we wouldn't have any interest in whatsoever.
