Is Merz any better than Vitek!? I don’t think so

Decent offer for Hanifin

Weak = Super Low offer for Henrique

Elvis is far better - .905 on a bad team, vitek .890 on a good team.
Based Hanifins deal on the Lindholm deal, i think that would be pretty close
Henrique is interesting. Was thinking Stillman, but dont think that would be worth it. Foote is a former 1st rounder who could for sure make the ducks roster next year, then i threw in another pick because foote is 23. Im sure they coud get a better offer elsewhere or even from NJ, but that is around what I would want to give up.

To add:

Vanecek: -0.372 GSAx/60, -0.007 SV%Ax, -1.86 Wins Above Replacement, 74th of 75 goalies to play 5+ NHL games this season (not an NHL goalie at the moment)
Elvis : +0.047 GSAx/60, +0.001 SV%Ax, 0.22 Wins Above Replacement, 39th of 75 goalies to play 5+ NHL games this season (the definition of a league-average goalie at the moment)

Elvis is an overpaid fringe starter/backup whose inconsistencies probably improve on a better team. Vanecek is statistically unplayable right now.

Goalies don't tend to have a lot of trade value, so I think you could get Columbus to retain up to $1M on Elvis with the deal here. Even with that, I think Columbus accepts.

Missing a Top Prospect. The Two 2nds aren’t a bad substitute, but they’re not until 2025 and 2026…

Would like to see something interesting in there like Misyul, Hauser, Gritsyuk, Leddy or Karpovich or better yet Holtz or Casey

Flames are likely more interested in Decent Prospects than Picks for their retool

I could get behind comparing their GAA or W-L-OT Record given the Team in front of them, but not Sv%

I don’t see Merz fairing any better in NJD and don’t see the cost being worth it to find out, especially with the Term and Cap Hit remaining on Merz

In the Hampus Lindholm deal, the Ducks were absorbing an enormous amount of salary ($8.2m in a very tight cap year). The market has shown that ~$6m takes a 1st to move (Monahan, Marleau, etc) and another $2m probably takes a mid pick. Vaak had fallen out of favor in Boston, so cannot imagine he made up a big portion of the trade.

If one were subtract the retention and salary dump (John Moore) and cost of paying for $8m, it ends up being closer to 1st + mid prospect…which is a fair comp here.

Chychrun, who had three years, went for 1st round pick in the teens at the time and two 2nd rounders. There is very little chance this offer exceeds that price.

Okay but you go back 1 year and Elvis was dead last in GSAx.

Since new years:
Both at about 0 GSAx
Since december
Vitek at -1 Elvis at +ve 3

Since the beginning of the year, numbers as you mentioned

Over the last 2 years:
Vitek: 2.61 GSAx
Elvis: -19 GSAx

Looks like a slight overpay for Hanifin, but I'll take it.

That's fair, but it's also a clear outlier from the rest of his career. The years before were +4 GSAx, -2.8, and -2.2. Vanecek was a +5.1, -5.4, and -7.3. Arguably, Vanecek's season last year was a clear outlier (+5.1) and his average expected play is more in line with how he's performing now. Same goes for Elvis, but last year's outlier was his low, and he's consistently at-or-just-below league average.

Goalies are strange, there's not a hard and fast rule for how good one will be in each system. Is Elvis an upgrade? Slightly, on average. Is that the answer for NJ? If it was, I think he would have been traded before now. I'm just saying if NJ is willing to take that chance, and Columbus is willing to retain $1M per, you're basically hoping it's a fit for just $1M more per year and a 3rd (plus the extra term). That's not a huge risk.

Evolving hockey has Elvis at 0.41 as a rookie, -1.66 year 2, -6.54 year 3, -26.74 year 4, 7.37 this year. Overall -26 over his 5 years

Vitek at -7.5,-2.8, 13.3,-10.67. Overall -7 over his 4 years

I’d argue vitek is just as likely to bounce back/become a good goalie again.

Just not worth the risk to take on the extra 2 years of Elvis imo. Worst case vitek costs a 3rd to dump in the offseason. Elvis plays like he did last year and we’re looking at a 1st++ to get Elvis off our hands
