UFAs Brodie and Samsonov and RhD Timmins are of no use to the Kings, and Los Angeles has 15 forwards on the roster right now, at least 4 of whom would be contending with Robertson for a slot on the third line. Even without the overwhelming and universal sentiment to have Drew retire a King, he won't be going anywhere for that offer.

For every well thought out Leafs trade I see, there are 8 of these. Brodie and Samsanov are cap dumps, so basically Robinson and a 1st for Doughty with retention for a GM who is trying to keep his job. Lol.

A guy turning 35 with 4 more years of term isn't going to get much of a haul. His cap is just too high and his term is gross. If he was to move it would have to be for way less than his past accolades warrant. Plus past accolades, his current accolades are not amazing.

The Kings arent retaining 2m on Doughty for the next for playoff runs (a player they absolutely need) for this mediocre return

None of this addresses that this move strengthens their future. Doughty has a lot of love for LA but his roots are in Ontario. No one would blame him for finishing his career with a contender.
