Both teams decline, its a very compensating offer for matheson but he's not the type a prospect MTL will be looking for

To get Stankoven, it takes a stud young top 4 D. So unless we offer Guhle, Hutson or Reinbacher, we aren’t getting him

Dallas declines. Stankoven is their top prospect, and they're counting on him being a top, cheap contributor in the future as guys like Pavelski, Duchene, Seguin, and Benn move on. You'd have to blow them away on an offer to get him. I could see Dallas trading a 1st and a decent prospect, but a 1st and a 3rd and their top prospect? Not going to happen.

Matheson would be a great add, but Nill doesn't spend big at the TDL. Since he took over in 2013, he's pretty much only added depth at the TDL. His big trades have been in the offseason.

I'm also confused as to why Ylonen is included in this trade.

I can see Dallas using Maverick Bourque as trade bait before stankoven as they like him really well. So your right there won't be an Stankoven trade.

Also Dallas don't have alot of cap space, less then 2m at deadline which will be hard to fit any big contract except if an bad contract going out at same time.
