Leafs don’t have the right pieces. Flames would want an elite young centre with long term team control. Plus more probably.

Think Lindholm package but with term on the deal at a solid cap hit for multiple years, also a guy the Flames probably have no desire to trade unless they're enamored with a deal.

The Flames would be down to 1 right shot defenseman (Tanev) and they likely will move him anyways.

The ask would have to involve either Cowan or Minten imo, which the Leafs have said is off the table currently. Andersson also has 3 years left at a friendly cap hit, plus the Flames seem to love him.

Leafs don't have the assets or appetite to get a player like him. The Flames want Treliving to overpay for Tanev. In an Andersson deal they'll probably ask for Marner ++.

Minten & Lilly, probably throw in Holmberg too since you want Centers (this is just as a base), this is a scenario where Brad would have to bite, cause this is a massive needle moving trade

Leafs have the assets, its the appetite they rightfully would lack like you mentioned. I imagine (Minten or Cowan) + Liljegren + picks would get this done. The only issue is that they would be giving up one of their top prospects (Minten or Cowan) and picks for a upgrade to our RHD.

I just dont think the improvement from Lily to Andersson is worth Minten or Cowan straight up, let alone with additional picks or players going back too... You are probably spot on that this is the trade value that would be needed, but I hate it for both teams tbh.

This is just not the right trade for the Leafs at all imo. If they insist on adding a RHD, they will have to limit their search to expiring contracts so the cost doesnt get out of control. I also hate the idea of moving Lily when we currently only have 1 RHD capable of a top 4 role...

First of all, Andersson is not a "sweetheard" contract. I would consider it a fair value contract.. I wouldnt want him any more than I would want players like Chychrun, Pesce or Girard, on their current deals and all of whom are on similar contracts.

I would also argue that Andersson isnt a true top pairing defensman. He fits more as a #3 or elite #4 on most contenders just like he is for CGY tbh (although would likely be top pairing in TOR by virtue of being a RH shot)

Great player, but he seems like he will stay in CGY for a long time imo. The kind of player every team needs, but no team is willing to trade away unless its an expiring contract or a huge overpay to get him.

Honestly nothing that you have or would be willing to part with, its just a stupid tweet by Weekes theres no way he gets traded for anything less than an absolute robbery.

I would be curious if an Andersson for Marner trade could materialize (most likely in the offseason). If the Leafs fall short in the playoffs again I could see them trying a big shake up, and that would certainly open up cap space to make other moves. For the Flames, maybe Marner really gels with the team and you extend him. If not, trade him in a year and continue the "retool".

Andersson + Kuzmenko for Marner + Liljegren

Calgary might consider Nylander +. And yes it'd take more than just Nylander because Andersson is on such a bargain contract for 2 more years.
