Interesting trade to VAN but take out the 1st in 2025 and Newhook and the DAL one doesn't happen. IMO

Considering what we gave up to get Newhook, the return is about a 1sr too low

Those are 2 unprotected 1sts for a team bound to fall off a cliff. Habs could screw them over even more by giving Pettersson an insane offersheet that forces them to trade depth to even afford him

If the Canucks trade multiple 1sts it’ll be for a bonafide star player. Not for a 3rd liner and two dmen that would be 3rd pair guys long term for us (even though I do like Barron)

If Pettersson were to leave/sign an offer sheet somewhere else, it’s likely because he’d want to be in a smaller market while still having a chance to win right away. Montreal doesn’t fit either of those criteria

You do realize not a single contender can afford a Pettersson offersheet. And you have no clue if he wants a big market or not. Its just your anti habs rhetoric under every post

To me he doesn’t seem like somebody who loves being in a huge spotlight, but that’s just speculation. But there’s also no reason he’d leave Vancouver for Montreal considering his main focus has been wanting to win, so why would he downgrade to a significantly worse team?

It could be worse you could've wasted a 1st on Dvorak.

First off if the Habs offered him Matthews numbers, he wouldn't care how big the spotlight was or whether they were contenders right away or not. Second, Habs are closer than you think to the Canucks, if we had Petterson, then we would be the contenders and you would be the bottom 10 team.

Yeah that’s just not true. Demko is a top 5 goalie while Montembeault is a mid range starting goalie. Canucks have a pretty significant edge in net

Hughes is a top 3 dman in the league, and Hronek is also better than any Montreal dman currently. Our bottom 4 defenders are also much better than Montreal’s. Canucks have a significant edge defensively

Miller is better than any Montreal forward. Boeser is on the same level as Suzuki and Caufield (although I’d say he’s slightly worse than them, but same tier). Lindholm is arguably on their level as well (although he hasn’t been as good as usual this season). Top line (excluding Pettersson since we’re comparing without him) I’d give the Canucks the edge because of Miller

Depth scoring isn’t even close, the Canucks are significantly better. Garland, Hoglander, Blueger, Joshua, Mikheyev, and Suter are better than every Habs forward that isn’t on their top line. You could argue Newhook or Dach over a couple of them but I’d still take the Canucks players (mainly because of Dach’s injury issues. If he was able to stay healthy for once that could change.) Lafferty is also better than any bottom 6 forward on Montreal

So when we exclude Pettersson

Goaltending: Canucks are better
Defense: Canucks are significantly better
Forwards: Canucks are significantly better
Coaching: Canucks are better
