If you added a pick I'm sure LAK consider it but, Danault is the more valuable player.

No on both sides

I’d rather sign DeBrusk and get a pick for Ullmark / let him leave as a free agent after one more year and then allocate his salary to Frederic.

The goalie play plus DeBrusk does more for this team winning right now than Danault would (even though I like him)

Obviously LA doesn't do that.

Show me a goalie trade that returns a valuable active skater as a comp

Danault might be the very last person traded from LA.

Edited Feb. 20 at 1:23 p.m.. Reason: corrected error
Los Angeles isn't trading Phillip Danault, as much for reasons of state as any other: Danault is the acquisition to whom Blake points whenever people start talking about the DuBois debacle.

I can show you a bunch of teams who are struggling because they took a pretty simplistic position on this point. The Kings don’t appear to be one of them due to outstanding play around the goalie and the emergence of a different AHL goalie than they projected

I believe Danault is a winning player just like Al Iafallo was, and you can’t afford to trade the DNA away, but as a player … I think Ullmark is in a higher tier compared to his peers than Danault is,

This probably shows you what it feels like when a team with less talent at center is ripping on a player that would help them smile

Ullmark and Danault would be upgrades (Boston would move Zacha to the wing). That said, I think BCarlo is right that Coyle is having a better season overall.

Either way, as long as Rob Blake is heading your team, these discussions are pointless unless Don Sweeney decides to discuss PLD.

One outlier season? He has three 50-point seasons, including the last two with the Kings, and he fell short of a fourth when he missed 11 games due to injury; he might get there this season, too. You can downplay him however much you want, but he's not a flash one-outlier-season guy.

the outlier was the 27 goal season. i'm not belittling the player. he's an amazing 3C or a solid 2C.

So you can't find one single comp

Not a Kings fan, so R.Blake isn't running my team and as a non-biased fan Danault is better than Coyle

Not this year, but I agree.

I’d also suggest that Ullmark is better at his position than Danault is at his position.

The two that come to mind are Darcy Keumper and Cory Schneider deals.

Good goaltenders are generally not traded unless they’ve have had mental health issues, the team has had serious cap issues, or there is pending FA. Middle six centers get traded all the time too usually under a condition where you get them at depressed values

I do find it ironic that teams with bad goalies keep on trying to find comparables. Good GM’s don’t trade great goalies generally for whatever reason

Bo Hovart for Corey Schneider

They were traded for picks, which is the common denominator of most deals. Not sure what your point is?

I kind of hate these discussions with Kings fans, because I know Blake has his position on goalies. I question his competence, but that’s another story. As long as he’s the GM, you’ll go for the AHL vet or the old washed up guy and hope you get by.

For Sure Ullmark for his position is better than Danault is at his overall but, a top6 center that eats up 17+minutes a night mostly vs the other teams top offensive lines and PK is more valuable than a goalie. VGK won win Hill and Brossoit got them half way, a strong top6 and top4 is more important for a championship team than an Elite goalie

They also extended Hill immediately and didn’t let him go. If they truly believed that you could find a goalie anywhere, they’d have not resigned him to a good dollar figure contract.

Reality is getting the cheap goalie is possible, but so is watching Copley or Schmid turn to crap after a small sample size of good or watching an old goalie wear down and have mediocre advanced stats that are hidden by an outstanding defensive structure like Talbott

You have to take risks on your roster composition because of the cap. The Kings are a team that has chosen to do it at goalie. Not even criticizing it. I think Boston is getting their moneys worth from their goalies. I personally believe a great goaltender can do more for winning than a second line center, but it’s really just an opinion.

I mean Chicago won with Niemi, Colorado won with Kuemper, St-Louis won with Binnington and Pitt won twice with Murray, all of them got paid after winning (except Kuemper), every single one is a regretful signing, I think Vegas made a mistake to bring Hill back at more than 2.5mil.
Other than Vasilevskiy and Quick teams only win with a nasty team and a goalie that catches fire at the right time. Holtby won a Vezina with Washington but had lost his job to Grubauer and rode a hot streak after Grubauer was replaced.
Crawford for Chicago was never considered a top10 goalie and he won twice.
Vegas didn't choose Hill, Thompson was an all-star, got hurt they went with Brossoit who won them a round and a game, got hurt himself and Hill closed it out

I’m not sure how you can say Hill is a bad signing with the way he’s playing.

Neither of them was the reigning Vezina trophy winner either.
