I would do it. I think Clarke and Stillman are relatively interchangeable in a deal just depends on what the Flames value more. I would like to find a way to get Bahl in as the Flames are dismantling their D core it seems. It will always boil down to if Conroy is getting exactly what he expects, the Flames have no reason to make the move without getting exactly what they target, if they don't then they just hold onto Markstrom and let him keep them in the hunt and mentor Wolf whether that's right or wrong.

I think probably so.

Assuming we have some protection on the pick (I would suggest the LAK protection on their pick that went to CBJ last year).

Fitzy putting Holtz on table tells me he wants fewer pieces going over (and likely doesn't want to send the 1st).

I wouldn't. No reason to trade Markstrom unless we are getting a prospect that is actually worthwhile

Prospect would certainly need to be better if they were to retain but getting full pop off the books, bringing in a goalie to work in the rotation for less term and getting pick that could be between 15 and 20 is not a terrible scenario. As I mentioned, I agree that the Flames have no real reason to make the deal without being blown away by the return.

Yeah I just don't see much value to getting Markstrom's contract off the books, it's not like we are going to anywhere near the cap ceiling next year. VV having 1 less year of term also doesn't help us open a spot for Wolf any sooner than it does having Markstrom here. Either way we need to ship out Vladar. Clarke isn't a particularly good prospect either, comparable to Schwindt, but a least he plays center. Lastly Markstrom would make them a contender and probably put their 1st in the 20-28 range at the least

I think in terms of the spot for Wolf, it's much easier to split the crease with anyone other than Markstrom. Pretty tough to tell a guy having a career year that he's going to ride the pine in lieu of a 22 year old rookie. I am all over needing to ship out Vladar but I don't think you get the value back that you paid to get him, teams find that hard to swallow sometimes.

There's no way Wolf is getting more than 25 NHL starts next year regardless so I dont consider that an issue at all

Pay a third team to retain, what is the issue here. Conroy just facilitates, doesnt actually lose anything. What am I missing here?

That's reasonable. I like the Saros/Rinne split in terms of workload when he was coming into the league.,

To get Markstrom your going to have to start the conversation with a piece the Devils don't want to give up and then add a bit more.

Saros' first 3 seasons were 21, 26, and 31. I think that is perfectly reasonable for a Markstrom/Wolf split
