Tanev doesn't have control outside of a list of 10 teams he said NO, that he named when he signed the deal or at the beginning of the league year
Flames might be holding and hoping for a 1st but, this does meet the criteria of wanting a 2nd+prospect.
Now we just have to see if Calgary wants to do business with Treliving

From what I've seen Timmins is valued as a late round pick (I've seen Sharks send their 5th). Based on that, this is an early 5th, a late 5th, and a mid 3rd for a mid 2nd. Per the Athletic's draft value chart, the early 5th is worth 0.3 GSVA, the late 5th is 0.2, and the mid 3rd is about 0.7, so they combine to about 1.2 GSVA. A mid second is around 1.6 or 1.7 GSVA. Bumping up Timmins' value to an early 4th only adds an additional 0.2 GSVA which still has it a bit short.

From skimming through trades and comparing values, the teams moving up tend to pay a bit more than The Athletic's values (for instance, when the Coyotes traded up to 11 it cost them 27, 34, and 45 which is 1.8 GSVA extra, or the value of pick 45). The Sharks are also trying to get more early picks because they need more quality than quantity so they're especially unlikely to trade back unless it's an overpay.

All of this is before factoring in that the Devils' pick has the potential to become a 1st rounder in the unlikely chance that they reach the ECF and the fact that the Leafs' 5th is 2 years in the future which is generally seen as a lower value than a pick in the current season.

Didn't know about the Athletic's draft value chart. Considering the conditions involved, the Sharks definetly reject. I would do this move for any late pick IF possible (I would assume a late second is worth a bit less) making the value pretty close to fair. Obviously SJ would be going for quality over quantity, but I'd assume some contending team with a lack of picks may make this deal for an extra pick + Timmins

Here's that draft pick value chart. Keep in mind that it's an estimate...obviously on draft day if teams are looking for a particular player available at that point who they don't think will be available with their regular pick they might value a pick position more than the chart. Generally speaking from what I've seen, the team trading up pays more than the chart's value.
