Most Hawk's AGM's on this site equate Murphy's value to Mathews, so this trade will most likely be declined.

Chicago accepts, seems like a good all around trade. Murphy deserves a legit chance at a cup, underrated D for TOR. Chicago gets assets and a young prospect RHD.

That is not even remotely true.

yea from Toronto's perspective Murphy is big, not offensively attuned but really solid defensively - the type of partner Rielly usually excels with. And I'd rather pony up for rental + 2yrs at a reasonable cap hit than one run with Tanev, even if Tanev is a bit better

As a Hawks fan, I'm listening. The biggest issue I have really doesn't have much to do with the trade value or the Leafs or ANYTHING outside of the Hawks organization. My issue/question is internal to the Hawks organization. How should a prospect be developed into an NHLer? We have a REALLY young team on the left side with Vlasic, KK, and likely next year Del Mastro. Murphy is helping Kevin Korchinski develop into an NHLer. All rookies make mistakes. Having a physical veteran to be paired with helps with long term development tremendously. Should Murphy be traded away at all would be my question. Not about trade value though. It's about our own team.

fair. Though I do think the play would be take the picks/prospects and overpay a vet RHD a la Foligno/Dickinson to come next year and be that mentor

Sounds like you can’t follow what is being said. If the Hawks are not ready to move him right now, it will take an overpay to get them to play ball. No one confuses Murphy for an all -star but if he brings value to the team he isn’t going to be moved for a collection of casts offs & often injured players as it is often proposed he is moved for on this site.

I could see the murphy trade happening in the offseason rather than the deadline, hes injured for the foreseeable.
