            It really isn't, at all.

i’d love to hear your argument as to why it isn’t.

Because a top flight PPG+ winger+19 year old top pairing dman+extra cap space+ a 1st helps a team significantly more than Pettersson at 12 million dollars

nemec is absolutely not a top pairing dman yet. he is scrapping top four ability atm but he does have potential to be a top 10ish dman in his prime. bratt is good but flawed, as his defensive play is not good at all. the 1st is a late first. i struggle to see the massive overpayment that you’re talking about

certainly the worst offer for petey listed here but i couldn’t find anything else of value on boston

Quick glance there half dozen packages i would not trade Bostons package for their package if i’m Boston, not that it really matters.

But you should have swapped Lysell for Poitras and Debrusk for Zacha or Frederic as Debrusk just walks.

Ehh. Eichel's not really the best comparison considering his neck injury and his insisting on a surgery that was a relative unknown at that point.

His neck surgery became one of the most politicized topics that I can remember. The amount of spin that both eichels agent and the Sabres put into it, absolutely ridiculous. His agent found a pressure point and squeezed the bejeesus out of it. I'm not the least bit surprised that he came back as expected and continued to be a top player. Adams did pretty well in hindsight- tuch is a top 6 power forward winger that scored 30 last year, and may be named captain, Krebs was the Knights best prospect (jury is still out, he's getting time with guys that don't have hoof hands now), the first became ostlund who had a very nice wjc and appears to be on track. The Sabres wasted the second round pick reaching on a goalie, "he's big" I think is his scouting report, but goalies are voodoo, so who knows. Either way, a lot of those pieces broke the Sabres way, eichels agent drove the price down, it's pretty tough to compare the eichel trade and an ep trade.

The gap between Bratt and Pettersson is not 4 mill AAV a year+2nd overall top flight prospect+1st. Simple as that

To replace Nemec with arguably a worse RHD right now without giving up draft assets costs 6+ million dollars in UFA (see Damon Severson contract) let alone as nemec develops further.

eichel got a proven top six forward, a top prospect at the time, and 2 firsts while being injured. pettersson is more valuable than he was at this point. Tkachuk got a top 25ish player in the league at that point in huberdeau and a proven top pair defensemen. Tkachuk is a winger, pettersson is more valuable

Got their signing rights as pending UFAs, really not that much value there, and a first.

Tuch was frequently injured in Vegas, and how's that top prospect working just now.

And you think Anaheim is giving up Zegras, Zellweger, AND a top 3 pick? Give your balls a tug.

He's the one who used it. Eichel also had term. Pettersson is a 1 year RFA

Pettersson is also quite a bit better than Eichel

The athletics player values has bratt at a market value of 10.2 million which is right in line for a star winger (see Johnny Gaudreau contract)
They have nemec at a value of 7.2 million right now as a freshly turned 20 year old. Again right in line with a high quality top 4 RD (see Severson contract)

They have Pettersson at a market value of 11.2 mill, a touch low but around accurate (one of the most overrated players in hockey, especially defensively). I'd probably have him around 13.5-14

Regardless that is 17.5 mill in value on 9 mill in contracts for bratt and Nemec. To make that up Pettersson at 12 mill would have to be a 20+ mill player, or a Makar/Matthews/Mackinnon/McDavid type asset
