Bad trade for both sides - Looks too much.

Noah Hanifin+Jacob Markstrom 2 x ($1,500,000 retained)+ Christopher Tanev and yet not a single 1st round pick going back to Calgary. Yeah Craig Conroy and blocks Fitzgeralds number.

The trade is a joke anyways As Calgary doesn't need 2 Goaltenders going back to them.

Both teams decline this. Calgary because the value coming back doesn't match their needs at all, and Jersey because while they fix goaltending they trade 2 cost controlled defensemen with term for 2 expiring defensemen that at least 1 will want a big raise

Not if we get hanifin and tanev to sign long term. Toffoli/Miller/Smith/Nosek all can walk. $8mil in cap space. Sell them on multiple cups 6,500,000 mil a season for Mercer, tanev, and hanifin

After this season is over ain't nobody signing long term with Calgary everybody wants out. All players have term in there contracts hell I'd even throw in haula

So you're adding Jacob Markstrom at 2.25 years at $6,000,000. per
Noah Hanifin at 8 years $7,500,000
Chrisopher Tanev at 3 years $3,500,000

So you're basically adding $17,000,000 combined for all 3 players, yeah good luck to that. And not even offering a single 1st round pick. And no deal for all 3 players without Alexander Holtz going back the other way.

NJ gets the 3 best players and Calgary gets junk junk junk and cap dumps no thanks

A realistic return for this is Holtz, 2nd and Vanacek for Markstrom, 1st for Tanev, Casey+2nd for Hanafin
In total: 1st,2nd,3rd,Vanacek,Casey,Holtz
(At bare minimum)

I think Calgary has been patient…and it’s looking like it is a sellers market on dmen. If the expectations are roughly…

Markstrom = Holtz
Hanifin = 1st+prospect
Tanev = 2nd+prospect
$1.5m x 2.2 = 3rd

We would probably be taking about something like:

One of - Holtz
One of - Casey, Gritsyuk
One of - Bahl, Clarke, Filmon, Hämeenaho
One of - 2024 1st, 2025 1st (some protection)
One of - 2025 2nd
One of - 2024 3rd, 2025 3rd

And possibly another piece to get over finish line. Maybe including both 1sts instead of 2nd.

I see what your trying to do but man your trade value and pieces included are just not the right ones.

Siegenthaler and Marino aren’t junk. Two solid defensive dmen on good contracts. But this is not an offer a rebuilding team probably opts for.

Sure call Marino and Siegenthaler the cap dumps then if you wish. They may be decent players but used in this application they are included for clearing cap for coming years. Cap dumps

thats a rly good analysis, I'd assume Hanafin comes with an extenion (or the possibility of one at minimum), also Vanacek would be pretty much forced to be part of the trade for money reasons

On great contracts, no dman of their quality under 5 mil a season anymore which ups there value, and is perfect for a rebuilding team. The only cap dump is vanecek

It doesn’t work that way through. A rebuilding Calgary team probably doesn’t ask for them, but they have a ton of value. And I agree that the ask will be different pieces.

If Calgary doesn’t want Vanecek, I think NJD could keep him and try to build him back…even if he becomes expensive depth piece for us next year. He is on IR now. The real cap crunch comes in two years, after he has expired and in last year of Markstrom’s deal, when Mercer and Luke likely have new deals.

Not Holtz, Mercer. Nemec would be preferable but NJ GM would have to be crazy to trade him unless maybe if Andersson was in the deal too but not likely even then.
