Fabbri makes 4 million playing on the fourth line and you're paying Ghost 4.1 to play on the third pair and Holl 3.4 as a healthy scratch. 4+4.1+3.4=11.5

Yes you can make the cap work next season but you can't guarantee for the next 5 seasons. What if he doesn't fit in or Detroit ends up wanting to trade him? You have a 30yr old defenseman with a $9.5M cap hit.

You do realize the main reason the Wings are still in the hunt for a playoff for a payoff spot, it's because they are getting production from all 4 lines. They have 11 forwards with at least 10g and 20p.

No worries Wing fans. Hawks don't make this trade even if it was offered. Holl is a pitiful attempt at a replacement for what Jones does every night. Ghost is a UFA who adds no value. And the Hawks already have enough injury prone forwards w/o Fabbri added to the group. And the three picks aren't enough to get Jones.

Although I appreciate OP's acknowledgement that Jones isn't this awful player everyone makes him out to be, you could remove all the cap dumps and CHI should still decline. You could even remove Jones and CHI should still decline. That isn't even enough to pay for the cap dumps.
