Scouting OTT two days in a row

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2023-24 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 27, 2024
Published: Feb. 27, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
NYI
  1. Pinto, Shane
Additional Details:
Isles are scouting Ottawa for the second night in a row. Is there a situation where Pinto can be had? Isles benefit from him making $775k and don’t need to offload major salary until the offseason.

Chychrun is an interesting name but he would require salary (Pageau?) to move along with a high draft pick and prospect. Tarasenko would cost less too, but again he would require retention+salary moving. I don’t see a guy who makes more sense than Pinto.

I know he’s been on a tear since returning, but is there a chance he can be traded? Not sure how the front office feels about him since the gambling situation. Bring the Long Island boy home, Lou!

There is no situation where Pinto could be had. Just to clarify for Isles fans. Doesn't matter that he's from New York

He’s a talented prospect, it’s a respectable offer IMO. But I’m used to these types of comments from you specifically lol

If he’s a talented prospect, he would have made the isles lineup lol. He’s no different than Matthew Philips

1. that offer isn't anywhere close to getting a player of pinto's caliber. a couple AHLers and a late pick in a weak draft doesn't get it done.

2. scouts being at a game isn't an indication of anything significant. there are always a handful of scouts at every game, often times not to watch any one team or player in particular. i wouldn't put any stock in what scouts are at what games.

Maybe early in the season, but b2b games 10 days before the deadline? That holds more weight

He hasn’t been a call up because his game is suited for a top-6 role. He is talented offensively but due to his size he is weaker off the puck. But his hands are sick and he has proven he has plenty of speed/scoring touch at the AHL level. The Islanders first/only call up was MacLean (to replace Cizikas). They haven’t had an injury to their top-6. Iskhakov is a complicated situation if you aren’t following it closely.

Scoring at the AHL level does not mean you can score at the NHL level. Defensemen in the nhl would break him and shut him down

His comparable Matthews Phillips:
5’8 160lbs
144 points in his last 131 AHL games
5 points in 33 NHL games
Flames moved on from him and Caps moved on from him. I’m sure the pens will waive him soon

Iskhakov is probably one of the most fun players to watch when he is on…but due to his size, he probably has to prove himself a bit in NHL before any trade.

Call him up.
