Avs wouldn't trade out a center to get anyone; their C depth is already pretty weak. Does Mercer even play C at the NHL level or does he play wing?

He can play both C and RW.

Moving out colton for mercer would be silly, colton is exceeding my expectations at least, re signing mercer would be very difficult to fit him into the team next season. Also it doesn't look like he plays much centre, with colton having 322 faceoff wins and mercer 117 faceoff wins comparatively

Mercer played center the most during his rookie year, he now plays here and there but not as much. Career 39.48% faceoffs though so I can't see Avs moving center if that is the immediate replacement.

If you want Andersson, Mercer is going back to Calgary in that deal, seems like quite a mess around to get Colton out of Colorado if you then give all the picks to Calgary anyways

I'm sure the Avs would love to have Mercer, but they're not going to move Colton right after signing him, nor will they add two firsts on top of it. I'm not really sure what they could realistically offer that NJ would be interested in.

Lots of other teams make more sense imo.

There's no way the Avs do that, and that's not because Mercer doesn't have value it's more that he simply doesn't fit a need and only opens up another hole in the process even if he managed to fill the 2C spot.
