I wonder if it would work as like a handshake agreement:

Hamonic agrees to waive to Boston right at the deadline so he can play there for a few games and get one solid playoff run and a possible cup.

Then Boston agrees that they'll trade him in the offseason to a Canadian team so he can play at home.
