I might be one of the few that would trade our 1st (unless of course it's 1st OVA) for Zegras just cause I don't believe he has hit his ceiling and we all know how bad a top pick can miss (see Kotkaniemi). Zegras has at least proven he is a top 6 player capable of 60+ points, add him to KD, CC, NS, JS, JR, AN and JA and you have the makings of a very strong top 9. I would even go out and try to get PLD for Dvorak + the Jets 1st just to make 3 top 6 forward lines. That would be a really tough team to defend.

That 1st has a good chance of being Catton, Demidov, Eiserman, or even Lindstrom if we get lucky. I wouldn’t gamble that type of potential for Zegras

In the proposition at first, its WPG picks so no chance to be a lottery pick . I would definitely accept that since the CGY pick is also full of condition !

The team wouldn't follow traditional structure of 1-2-3-4 lines. Also those top 3 lines and forwards are interchangeable depending on who is going and what we need in game. No way would Newhook or Dach have any case to ask for 9 mil, neither has hit 40 points yet in their careers and if Dach has one more lengthy injury, I wouldn't resign him anyway. Most they can hope for is 5 mil x 3 years to maybe actually show they can produce more than 40 points

Yes but even if we land anyone other than Celebrini, they could just be another Scherbek, Kotkaniemi, Drouin ect... Being selected top 5 doesn't automatically mean you are going to be a top line player, where as Zegras has already proven he is a top line player. I would rather take the known then gamble on potential just to miss it again.

It's possible they don't work out, however, MTL's biggest need is top end talent, and our pick has more top end talent than Zegras, imo
