Except Conroy was clearly and specifically more interested in acquiring a Prospect more than Picks that won’t help the Flames for years from now in exchange for Tanev

Good thing your not GM then... Boosh had some of his best underlying stats of his career on Toronto, hence the contract. Adding him as a depth piece is completely fine and pretty damn good

Ah, yes, a Montreal fanatic opining on what HE would have done as the Toronto GM.

Does the word "recuse" strike a familiar note?

How? It’s more picks and Timmins is at least a bottom pairing guy. That’s Grushnikov’s ceiling.

    Either way, Stars say no

This biggest thing is the 2nd you're offering is 3 years away. The flames want to be competetive again for 2027 when the new rink opens. If dallas does make the Stanly cup finals this year the 3rd round pick is worth more then 2 5ths and a 4th. They seem to believe grushnikov has potential, where at this point timmins is what he is a #7 dman.

I honestly didn’t notice the year on the 2nd, that makes the biggest difference, so I agree with it being a lesser package.

Also, with Grushnikov it’s so funny. All I have heard for the past year or so when he was a Stars prospect was how he had a low ceiling and may end up a career AHLer with how he is projecting. He is traded and suddenly he has a ceiling of a top 4 D and is pretty much guaranteed to be a career NHLer.

Huh? Why would CHI hand TOR $5M in cap relief AND send them nice assets for a late 1st? Dumping Reaves alone COSTS them the equivalent of an early 2nd.

I think CHI would either send them two 2nds and Soderblom OR give them the $5M cap relief for the 1st, but not both.

How does Reaves cost as much as Bailey to dump?. A 3rd at most. His buyout is $450k against the cap come June. He never suits up in Chicago. Hawks just send him home. So that leaves the Samsonov for Soderblom swap plus two late 2nd's for a late 1st. I know you use the Sound of Hockey draft pick value chart. The difference between that 1st and the two 2nd's is another late 2nd/early 3rd depending on exactly where all the picks land. Would you swap two late 2nd's and two 3rds for another 1st? I do. I'm over Soderblom as the backup goalie. He sucks. Maybe this slightly favors the Leafs, but I'm good with that to get another first in the '24 draft. This gives the Hawks four top 35 picks in the draft.

Term is how it costs as much. Buying out Reaves becomes a four years, and as I've said in other posts, if it is so easy to bury him or buy him out they should just do it themselves. Also, your valuation and determination of Soderblom is extremely reactionary and short sighted. There is no reason to do anything with Soderblom other than letting him sink or swim in a CHI sweater. Don't act like you didnt' know these rebuilding years were going to be bad and that there would be growing pains, or that other goaltenders haven't had abysmal rookie years and still gone on to become solid NHL goalies. Samsonov is worthless to CHI. It's not just about Reaves either, we are not giving them $5M in cap relief and a handful of nice assets for a 1st. That would just be throwing away assets for no reason. I'd rather just make those picks or package those picks on draft day to trade up, than to just hand over valuable assets and cap space because "we are getting a 1st". Even if we value a Reaves dump at costing a 3rd or a 4th, this trade still makes no sense.
