6 more years of DUBAS and list of things to expect

Created by: Brad_Treliving
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 3, 2024
Published: Mar. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm so sorry Pens fans for what you will have to endure under Dubas. As a Leafs fan, expect the following:

1. You will be one of the softest teams in the league. Any guy that throws a hit, he will be either put on waivers or is on the trade block. Dubas doesn't advocate for defending a teammate, he has that belief of "power play is our toughness". I'm not throwing words into his mouth, the man said it himself

2. You want defense? You won't be getting it under Dubas. Are you liking Karlsson and Graves? Expect more

3. Goalies are hits and misses, I'll give Dubas that. He can either be very smart about it or make a risky signing (Samsonov vs Murray, Jack Campbell versus Mrazek)

4. Pens bottom 6 will be filled guys who have no roles or don't know what they are doing. You will be throwing mid level picks for guys who should go for a 7th or future considerations

5. Expect a lot a lot of signings and drafting of players who are undersized defensemen and forwards. He has no issue of creating a team of guys who are under 5'10"

6. Expect every decision to be analytics-driven. This is personal preference but I never agreed with it

7. You will never see the Pens as a "team". It's the core 4 (Crosby, Karlsson, Malkin, Letang) and everybody else. There will be no unity that they once had

You may agree with some of the points and disagree on others. At the end of the day, this is what I have seen 5 years under Dubas

I'm just giving a realistic expectation. Is there something that you don't agree with?

Idk if you're a Leafs fan but I watched it ALL since the day he was hired

If only Brad Treliving had a shred of success as a GM, you could actually not look ridiculous.

5 years under Dubas can't compare to the team Tre has put together in his first year. First time in a long time I'm actually watching the Leafs play like a team

Idk from an outside view but if you're a Leafs fan, you know

Do you remember the train wreck Brian Burke left in Toronto? Because that was a disaster and Dubas left you in fine hands.

If you actually watched the Leafs closely, you would have a different opinion. Either way, wishing Pens fans all the best

5 years of Dubas not wanting to trade Holl and Kerfoot because he was Marner's best friend says everything you need to know about the guy

I'll bite;
1.) Rutherford tried going to toughness route in 2018, it completely destroyed this team. I'd rather outscore the opponent than try to out-muscle them. How is the Reaves signing going Brad?

2.) Karlsson is 81st percentile in xgoals against. He is playing very good defensively. Graves is 57th percentile, not great but passable for 4.5MM and this is his low, he will likely rebound.

3.) Jarry is currently 4th in the NHL in GSAX 5v5. So far so good.

4.) Eller, Acciari, DOC, have all been good signings.

5.) Undersized players can still contribute and be very valuable. I don't get the hate?

6.) Why are you against analytics? It is a great way to understand players in a vacuum but it does disregard emotions (which can be important)

7.) This might be valid. I can't explain why this team isn't winning. They look like Edmonton before the Oilers broke out. There might be too many cooks in the kitchen but that is extremely speculative.

Honestly I'm ok with what is going on. The Pens have 3 cups that I recall watching and 5 in my lifetime. That's more than I can say for basically every other franchise.

Should also mention before Dubas you only made the playoffs 2 out of 12 years and hadn't made it to the 2nd round since 2004. Dubas left his successor with a string of 5 straight playoff qualifications and a team that made the 2nd round last year. There is no way you can say Dubas didn't leave the Leafs better than he found them...

Dubas changed his way of thinking in his final year knowing that he needed a new contract. His thought process has always been the same and its showing in PIT

He didn't leave anything behind, just a mess (no picks, no prospects, overpaid contracts like Brodie and Tavares)

Dubas is an extremely talented GM. He couldn’t even make all of the decisions. Shanahan was behind like a rat blocking trades.

"Extremely talented" is quite the statement lol

We'll see how far it takes him in PIT, I could be wrong

Oh I remember those Phaneuf and Kessel trainwreck teams. Ron freaking Wilson lol. Dubas left you in great shape compared to that mess.

He was the one who left you with Marner Matthews Tavares Knies Nylander Rielly Minten etc. Show a minimum of respect before crying and yapping about his work. D riding Treliving.. he literally only signed Bertuzzi. Look at the défense he built💀 don’t tell me it’s better than what Dubas did.

I always preferred Don Wilson. He runs Iowa's largest wildlife preserve.

Leafs replaced 1 overrated GM for a bad one.

Duba isn’t any good but I don’t think Leafs fans should be saying much about others’ GM situation

You are a deranged human being lol. I couldn't imagine being this obsessed with another person I don't know.

Also, the irony of you here complaining while you just traded for Lyubushkin is hilarious

Like I said from above, you may not agree or like the points but I'm telling the truth in terms of what I have seen from Dubas after watching him run the Leafs for the last 5 years. You can ignore it or get upset about it, but I'm just stating what I have saw
