Because they're leveraged. They have to make room for Jiricek and they have to move out Boqvist and Peeke to do that. If they didn't have Jiricek or if they didn't sign Severson then they wouldn't have to trade Boqvist.

The obvious outlier is Kyrou, which is exactly the kind of trade I'd like to see Columbus make. 2 of our penciled-in top-6 wingers for one elite piece, plus picks to balance. I don't know why St. Louis entertains that, but a package like that is the only way I'd see Johnson traded.

Laine is OMG no get it away from me, the devillllll!!! Johnston is nice and all, but he's not a need and definitely not a main piece in a Kyrou trade, let alone one that saddles us with Lucifer Left Wing. A high 2nd is nice and all, probably the piece that theoretically fits a needs most in the package.
