Avs decline. Allen isn't worth it and I can't see the Avs wanting the second year.

“Jake Allen” and “great” don’t belong in the same sentence unless that sentence is “Jake Allen is not a great goalie”

High-price means the maximum price, but I don't see Montreal '' giving Allen '' with retention for lower than that.

MTL can keep him, it's not even close imo. He's closer to a cap dump than an asset.

Allen's a good goalie who had a great start which ended in TBL in the first period where he had 4 Goals Against all Mike Mathesons fault including one he kicked in on Allen. Allen's response was positive in the moment supporting the back up and standing up to open the gate for players all night long
He took it really hard called himself out in the media when it was clearly 100% Mathesons fault without a shadow of a doubt.
Regardless Allen went on to lose the next 6 starts and really hasnt had many since to redeem himself as Monty was given a run and Primeau got some time in leaving Allen ice cold. If we sent down Primeau im confident if he could play more get into a flow he'd be fine
But look at his starts and how far they are apart on HockeyReference.com or one of those sites. You'll see the correlation before and after that TBL Loss.

Dont get me wrong Mathesons fault but he had just played i think 27 minutes the game before we over use him a lot and he was caught flat footed once, screened Allen twice then scored a goal on him. Its not like he meant to its just going from 18 minutes career average to 25 minute+ average in MTL is a big friggin leap.
After that he woke up and started playing worthy of the minutes he got but us overplaying Mathesons has a domino effect as does this stupid 3 goalie Rotation we had in MTL and Laval until one of the 3 in Laval got hurt last week

And now ?

Montreal just received a guarantee 3rd round pick for Allen.......

Never underestimate the power of Hughes to receive somes assets for somes supossed unwanted players.

My comment didn’t say anything about the return. You said Allen was a great veteran goalie. He’s not, he’s a mediocre veteran goalie. That was a good move by Hughes

Yes, if the sentence were "Jake Allen is not a good goalie", then "Jake Allen" and "great wouldn't be in the same sentence. slither io
