After the Allen / Kahkonen tandem fails NJ circles back in the offseason and makes a deal for the goaltender they wanted all along. They get a right shot center/winger to replace Mercer too and Mercer gets a chance to develop into a 2nd line center in Calgary that he'll never get playing behind Hughes and Hischier in NJ.

Edit: Walker Duehr could replace Cole Schwindt if NJ prefers but he's older and can't play center.

Now we'll just go after somebody better and younger and keep Mercer while we're at it

Sorry Calgary fans... your quest to finish out of the playoffs with a crappy draft pick is going to be fulfilled. With that draft pick, you might draft the next Dawson Mercer. And in five years, when Markstrom is bad, and you need a goaltender, you can trade whom you wasted this year to draft, Sam Honzek, and a first round pick for a 34 year old goaltender.
