i would say don't compare this to a trade from 10 years ago, but schneider is literally one of the best statistical goalies of all time so maybe

Since it’s #9 pick from Devils for a goalie…I felt the 11 year old comp worked

that and taking the younger of 2 starters from a cup contender in a cap crunch

that said, really don't see bruins moving swayman if not for a good young center

So underrated on that run in his prime

From 2010-2016:

1st in GAA
1st in sv%
2nd in GSAx
2nd in GSAx/60

I’d make Mercer-Swayman the centerpiece of a swap if they want a hammer.

If they want assets I’d go as high as 9th overall+Holtz. Which would be an absolutely historically massive package for a goalie

He has no extension yet, went through Arb heading….so until we see him signed, it remains possible.

(80% of players who go through Arb hearings end up on different teams within two years).

ya... one would hope NJD learned from their mistake 10-11 years ago. they should decline, no G is worth a top 25 pick

Schneider was also traded outside of the conference and it was only after they couldn’t get Luongo traded with his long term. The direction is pretty obviously going to Ullmark being traded

I think you should look at the success rate of first rounders from 15 to 25 and then look at your season.

A top 10 pick is one thing, but once you get past that first run of players in a draft, it is an utter crapshoot

Agreed if the devils weren't gonna be picking around 10 I'd trade it 100% for Ullmark but since it's gonna be 8-12ish I'd rather keep it or move it in a deal for a goalie like swayman

I love the draft, but it’s still pretty hit and miss. I know what Swayman is. There is an opportunity cost upside with the draft.

Go back to picks 9 through 20 in the 2013 draft. How many of those guys would you take over Cory Schneider knowing the career you got out of him? Vancouver got lucky that Bo Hovart fell

No I'm agreeing the draft outside of the top 5 even is really hit or miss. and FYI Horvat didn't fall most places had him 10-15 it was just a solid pick

There was a ton of smoke that if Lindholm would have gone 3 to Tampa that Horvat was going 5 to Carolina. In that sense, they got lucky. You never know with the draft, but I really think people overrate first round value past the premium picks x It’s great compared to losing a player outright and the more swings you have, the more likely you are going to hit in real value,

The problem I see is the cap. If Quinn and Nemec have their bonuses having NJ going over the cap, it means a reduced cap for 25/26. And Quinn and Holtz need new contract and there isn't any expiring UFA contracts. Maybe just signing a UFA goalie at 3.5m is the answer.

It’s the primary reason why I think it is going to be Holtz going in a trade. $3.5m is a good way to get the next Vanacek,

Schneider was good for a few years…it was the rest of the team that was declining. Once Parise left for Minnesota and Kovalchuk returned to Russia…it was downhill from there (in many ways it’s similar to the decline in Calgary after Tkachuk and Gaudreau left).

If we are catching a good goalie in his prime as our team is just getting to our window…we should have a good 4-6 years to contend.

Our performance bonus number should be higher this year (even though the max will be higher next year).

If we have any carrryover, it will be smaller than we previously anticipated.

The cap number to worry about is in 2025-26 when Luke gets his first RFA. At that point, we will probably have to move out a contract unless we bridge Mercer.

10th overall+Holtz+your choice of Schmid/Daws would be my offer

Or replace holtz with 2025 1st

Or Mercer+daws

Of course Swayman will almost certainly be resigned but if negotiations falter that would be the offer.

And then I think in the offseason something like 2025 1st for Ullmark+small sweetener maybe?

Yeah…I think it was EDM and NJD bidding. Can’t recall why EDM deal fell apart (maybe they thought Nurse would go earlier).
